Ariel Atom style of cars

Has anyone driven these things or other cars similar to this? Are they worth it to buy/rent?

I came across the KTM X-Bow and Honda 2&4 Concept on GT Sport and thought they were pretty cool until I saw the price tag. I guess the closest thing that is affordable is the Polaris Slingshot. Are there any other cars in this category?

Yeah, a motorcycle.

Cheaper, faster and about as safe.

Hi there! I see your looking at buying a glorified go kart! Here’s a friendly tip!
>don’t

Rent maybe. Buy nah. They're downforceless memes. Kit cars like these start at $50k and weigh less than 400kg. With engines ranging from 1000cc literbike engines to turbo 1300 busa motors. Whether they're street legal or not depends where you live.

>BUYING A TRACK CAR THAT IS ROAD LEGAL

Just think that sentence in your head a couple of times.
Do you now realize how fucking retarded that sounds?
Take any RWD ca with even a little sportiness to it, rip all the stupid shit out, pump some money into it and make it a track car.
Buy a trailer.
Buy a towhook.

Congratulations. You will now have more fun with less money.
Track cars like the Atom, the Formula Ford "for the road", the X-Bow, 3-wheeler are all fucking memes. If you want light, small, fast, buy a go kart or a GP3/Formula 3 car.

Look into Caterhams and lotus 7 remakes/clubmans

Ultimate expression of a toy car.

BAC Mono

Radical Rs3

Morgan 3 wheeler

Calm your tits kid. I honestly thought they looked cool. Thats it. If its the same cost as a car or even higher (the two I mentioned starts at $90k), then fuck it.

The BAC Mono caught my eye though. I like that prototype/F1 style seating though.

Too expensive.

All of them are way too expensive.

I wish they made one that cost the same as a motorcycle, but that will never happen.

Yeah I’ve driven a go kart before. I wouldn’t buy one just go to your local karting place and rent one for a couple hours.

>motorcycles are as safe as something with greater friction, greater stopping power, and a cockpit
You are a special kind of dumb, huh?

Caterham. I have the money for one right now, but don't have a garage to put it in.

The only difference is you have a half-frame and a seatbelt protecting you in an Atom.

I don't see the point desu, if you're willing to sacrifice safety and comfort to the point of owning an Atom why not go all the way and get a cheaper, faster vehicle.

Isn't this style of cars called Superlight/Superlites?
Nonetheless, they are really cool. I'd love to own a few and make my own Superlite track or something

Pic related, a Draken Spyder, yet another Superlite that's out of Veeky Forums's budget

>faster
it wasn't, though

Ariel Atom completely BTFOd a motorcycle in Top Gear if I recall correctly.

its not a new thing. exploiting power to weight ratio.

the other is the radical SR8. its got a bike engine in it.

another way to exploit power to weight ratio is to build one of these pic related. its a t bucket hot rod.

build a frame: biggest cost is running gear. the rest is mounting things.

Maybe in a straight line, but a sport bike will carry more speed in the turns

>far too expensive
>will get tired of road use sooner or later
Buy a spaceframe and build your own Retard Rocket.
or buy a Caterham DIY kit, it'll be slower for the money invested, but there's no trial-and-error or sourcing parts, and you still get to assemble it yourself.
And you can get a roof on a Caterham so its slightly more useable

I drove a BAC Mono. All these cars are retarded, you look like a complete clown driving them, you can't use 20% of their potential on the street. On the Mono it's completely laid back seating like an F1 car so your head is maybe 3 feet from the ground, not a good feeling when you are driving around on the street, feels like you could be killed by a wayward grocery bag.

Didn't they race it against a CBR600?

It's completely the opposite. You just showed how clueless you are. Stop spouting bullshit when you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

>a sport bike will carry more speed in the turns
???

what prevents me from putting a big fucking wang on an atom?

you sound like one of those women who write for jalopnik, and yes that is a bad thing

I drove a Polaris slingshot at a demo, it was fun as hell

I have driven one (with the sequential box), pic related. It was top fun but I can never see myself buying one.

I've driven one with a sequential and would rather DD one and own a utility vehicle for the occasional shit than own a regular car.

But America says I gotta be safe, so I ride a motorcycle, shirtless, wearing a half helmet.

It's the opposite and the sportbike rider sure won't do the bike any favors

>OH LAWD THAT'S A BARRIER INSTEAD OF A GRAVEL TRAP I BETTER SLOW DOWN IN CASE I CRASH

Yeah, a stock standard cbr600 from the 90's with god knows what tyres.

You mean:
>Buying a Lotus Elise/Exige?
>Buying a KTM X-Bow?
>Buying a Caterham?
>Buying an Ariel Atom?
>Buying a BAC Mono?

Kinda fits in my head!

They just make you look like a rich prick who's too pussy to ride a bike.

>are all fucking memes.

The cars are for people whose time is worth enough TO THEM that it warrants buying a finished car like that instead of going through all the steps you just listed. Your opinion is irrelevant because it's just that, an opinion based on your perspective (your income, your preferences, your life situation) and is completely different from theirs.

The cars definitely have a place in the market whether you like it or not.

>I want a car
>Just get a bike bro

Is there a reason why KTM won't make a street legal xbow with the GT4 body

They make a lot of sense in Britain with our rollercoaster country roads and never being more than an hour away from a track. But if you live somewhere flat with a grid system and a drag strip 2 hours away, don't fucking bother.

Nobody would buy it, the KTM is already expensive compared to other road legal track cars.

You'd feel really stupid if you went through all the effort to turn a shitbox into a track car, buying a tow car and trailer then going through all the hassle of towing a car to and from a track only to find out it's still slower than a purpose built track car that some guy drove to the track.

>I don't want to put in any effort

get off Veeky Forums buy your superlite, and take it to the mechanic every 200 miles so he can change the oil.

That is, after your bus pass expires

can I be spoon-fed please?

I admit it was just speculation behind my post, but I don't find any data to support your stance.

Your shitty trailered E36 with no interior and a fancy intake won't even see which way some corporate manger's Carrera S went, let alone an Ariel or BAC. Enjoy all that effort for nothing.

stay salty

you can make a kart out of a C4 vette that will be faster than any lesser 911 shy of the turbo and GTx

what if instead of worrying about beating other people on the track, you just had fun going fast in a car

want fast but cheap track car? buy caterham
want fast but cheaper track car? buy preowned caterham

I don't want to put in a lot of effort to get less in return. Don't act like someone who buys a dedicated track car also knows nothing about cars, that's a ridiculous idea.

>return

you don't know what that word means, do you?

But I do.

no you can't

Just search Corvette kart. These are common, so it is dumb trying to argue

flyin miata makes a couple little cars like this that just need miata donors, you can turbo the shit out of them

yeah, and it got shat on by a bmw HP4.
and i mean shat on.
youtube.com/watch?v=lTAUV1Yj4NE

In the fucking rain no less

Also
>top gear
>james may driving
>believing that the race wasnt scripted as fuck
>not realizing that the bike had to go a lot slower than it normally would because there is a car on the track with it
>treating Top Gear as certifiable facts

If they did straight timed laps, the HP4 would have beaten the atom by at least a second.

you didn't watch the video did you?

Was ripping on the person to whom you responded.
I am well familiar wih that video, it brings me two wheeled joy.
