I think people do this if they sense you take care of your car, I guess they do it as a form of insurance that you wont slam your door into there's when you open your door to leave, reducing the risk that some dumb roastie will park next to them and fuck their car up. I parked my car in a literally 100% dead empty car park before, parked quite a bit away from the store I wanted to go to, I came out and some guy parked a well kept 20 year old Renault Megane next to my car.

Take it as a compliment I suppose.

Backing in, visibility in cars got worse so you need above average spatial skills to park perfectly between the lines without a guide. Or a backup camera.
