Why do mechanics have autistic hours?

for weekends i would either have a dedicated part time crew mostly staffed by local teenagers, and/pr have rotations so that some of the full time workers have to work weekends but then get two days off during the week.

Why not learn to work on your car yourself? Nothings hard about it, if you can't do it you're either lazy or stupid.

Mechanics don't want to work weekends either. Take the day off or fix it yourself.

I was talking to a guy in my family who runs a shop. He used to race. I don't agree with him about everything, but we're eye to eye about what makes a successful business and what people want long haul.

Good luck getting good techs and parts guys to work nights and weekends. Every shop I've worked in all the good techs take the good shifts, the rest is filler. Same goes for parts guys.

Most of the carquest/Napa stores here are open evenings and Saturday's, guess who works in the evening and on the weekend? That's right, the ricerfag that looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked him for a roll of 3/16" brake line, i had to go out back with him and find it myself. The guys with 20 - 30 years experience are gone home by 4:30.

That being said at most shops you can drop your vehicle anytime after hours, they usually have a Dropbox for keys.

Considering I worked at a shop for 8 years, we had our helper basically constantly shuttling people around. Helps get the kid good at finding NVH issues and up selling add on services.

You know how many times I'd make a call once the kid came back and offer an alignment and balance on a job like that and get some extra $$$ out of the job?

Also its a pay it forward kind of idea, you suck the loss of time from a helper/porter in hopes that you get the customer to recommend others to you.
