I have friends who work more hours than me, have more automotive enthusiasm, and are the same age as me who are still working their ass off for their first car so they can install a cold air intake and rice out. I got out of that phase like 6 years ago. My parents putting down a few grand for my first car changed my life and put me into this amazing hobby.

Tbh, It is not hard to buy your first car on your own, you have a job, but where do you live, If you live at parents place, then it is pretty much shameless to also ask money for car, because your upkeep is low as fuck anyway because you're not renting anything.
If you are renting something, then ohboy, just collect for a year or so, should be able to save up 2k, I mean, I live in Yuropoor, where I make measly 10k a year, and I can easily save 3k a year.
Then when you buy a car, please for the love of god, when buying cheap rundown shits, make sure, that you wont fall through the car, that you can change tires without breaking the sides etc... If you have 3k cash, then buy 1.5k car, because you're going to repair it for at least 1k. same goes for 3k car.
