If I buy a 3k-5k shitbox miata will it be driftable out of the box?

If I buy a 3k-5k shitbox miata will it be driftable out of the box?

I'm not exactly good with cars but I'm willing to learn and do my own work

if you know how to drift then you can drift it

For a good driver? Yes.
For you? Probably not.

But hey maybe you'll learn, especially if you find some nice dirt roads!

Sure on dirt roads but i feel like telling morons to go drift down dirt roads is a pretty bad thing, probably end up running head on into a tractor or something.

How about this, people who know how to do these things knew how to do them before they ever got their first car, you don't go drifting in a car you like nor do you do it in one you want to keep.

accept that your dad was shit and didn't teach you to drive just like most of us have to accept that our parents didnt teach us how to ride motorcycles as a child and now we are all 20 years behind 20 year olds if we want to get into it.

Yes
in the snow/rain
They're not 'good' for drifting. Short wheelbase and propensity to snap back in line without being asked.

>driftable
it can oversteer on power, like any other rwd. except that, it has zero torx on low revs and you can get open diff version which makes nice skids a bit harder to pull off.

go get it, it might be hard at first because engine is so weak (i have 1.6 though) but you'll get it at some point for sure

Pretty sound advice tbqh but it is possible to find a nice safe spot and learn in your "good" car without too much risk.

Takumi started as a 16 year old and made it to pro level in four years. Check and mate.

Open diff and flexible chassis means you're gonna have a bad time, weld the diff or get LSD

It's easy if you're the drift king:

>weld the diff
Kill yourself.

So that's why bumpstops are important.

I crashed dozens of cars before i learned how to actually drive properly, difference is they were not my dd and i was a child at those times driving a paddock bomb.
How can you expect to learn in a car you actually respect?
you can't that's how.

What's wrong with welding the diff?
My truck has a welded diff and I love it

On a tight windy dirt road with good visibility (or that you know no one will be on) and not much besides bushes to crash into.
Provided OP has at least a little knowledge (some time on Gran Turismo would do) he shouldn't do too much damage with the speeds he'd be going on dirt.

The only cars that should have a welded diff are dedicated burnout cars.

nah he will still write his car off you watch.
i bet half of Veeky Forums would write their car off just trying to go gutter to gutter more than 10 times on a dirt road.

It's fine if:
(A)
>You're only going to drive on dirt
(B)
>You have a 500hp dedicated "drift" car that you do "heaps sick" handbrakies and clutch dumps in

If you actually want your car to turn in on tarmac however - it's terrible.

My truck drives fine on the street tho?

>tfw 01 mx5 se with 63k miles on it for $6.7k
is this a good deal?

Well I can't say for sure because I've also been driving since I was a kid but on some of the nice dirt roads I've found you can learn all about traction and the dynamics of weight shift at the safe speed of ~40kms and when I've run wide or borked out all I did was run over a bush or two.

Please don't try OP.
It will become costly and frustrating quickly.
You can attempt it, but it will be pretty much like paying a whore and taking her fishing. Nothing forbids you and it's possible, but it's not what it is good for.

I'm sure it does drive "fine".
But I also bet it doesn't have good turn in.

What are you buying an MX5 for?
Because it's becoming a collectors item, or because the aftermarket parts are ridiculously broad?

for a relatively fun/cheap DD

>collectors item
Literally has the record for being the most common convertible.
guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/best-selling-car-two-seater-sports

Then my opinion would be to find a mint car without the SE tax on it, if it's much less than 6.7k.
It's just a color scheme. If you're going to touch it at all, you'll ruin any collectable feature it has to people that actually have the money later down the track.

Personally, if the non-SE NB's are cheaper in your area, I'd get a cheaper one and through some konis or something on it.

Kinda like how the ford model t was one of the most common cars and is now a collectors item right?

oh fug, I thought this was a good deal :L
are there really better cars for that price? I've been all over the place, and this is the only convertible, used ($$$), stick and decently preforming car I've found

Actually, the cost the same or even less than a hundred years ago if you adjust for inflation.

I've no idea what the MX5's go for in your area, so I can't say.
They're a fun car and you can spend as much or as little as you want pepping the suspension/engine as you want.
If it's super clean then get it checked out and make a decision.

>Knows nothing about cars or driving
>Thinks he's going to learn to do body work
On a drift car, the body work isn't important.
Any crash that isn't enough to destroy the frame you're just going to be snipping parts off or banging something back.
You won't be doing body work on a drift car, that's retarded.

already had my family mechanic look at it, apart from some loose motor mounts and a messed up antenna it's in great shape
that didn't stop him from hounding me to buy his flooded cars tho (houstonfag)
I'm fairly certain this is a good deal, miatas this price usually have 50k more miles than this one, and this one is an se and in great condition. my only worry is that I could get something better but I just don't know where or what

I meant mechanical

It's not that they're a bad drift car, they're just a difficult drift car. You can totally spin it around a parking lot but if you're serious about drifting I'd get a different car. Also 3k-5k is gonna get you a way better Miat than a shitbox, if you're gonna buy one for skids go get some 1k salvage title one and fuck around with it instead of ruining a clean one

On stock tires yes. Pumping them up would help a bit too, make sure you get a 1.8 car with the torsen lsd, they'll drift fine.

>make fiberglass molds of all the body panels
>hit wall
>two rattle cans and a half hour later it's like nothing happened

Dagumi started in middle school well before he got his liscence.

everything is driftable
if you have to ask, you don't have what it takes
