I honestly wish I fucking knew what he's talking about. I've been playing since ver 0.37 (late 2015) and I don't remember there being a significant outrage about the update that included official timers whatsoever.
I started doubting myself when I saw this vid if I remembered that update properly or not, so I asked the others in discord as well. As I expected, they told me that a few people got angry about it but that it didn't really have a significant effect on the playerbase. The only concrete evidence I found of people getting angry was in an ESR thread (esreality.com
If you want my take on it, I think this guy overreacted and felt like timers were the direction the game was heading, despite Newborn's statement about wanting to make a "lockhud" callvote command. Little would he know that upon the integration of matchmaking that timers would only be allowed in Casual, and even then that they'd be disabled by default for new players. To be frank, I honestly forgot timers were ever a thing until recently when I looked through all my widgets while remaking my hud.

they decided to go with no textures but if you want to add any detail to maps it will kill performance for basic things that could be accomplished with textures

QL is fairly populated but costs money. Like said there are alot of free games in the OP: CPMA is fun and they have a Discord server if your looking to learn about the game or get picked up for a game, QW and Q2 are less populated but are classics, there is ofc QC if you can handle buggy bs that makes you want to flip your comp table. Your biggest disadvantage is that no matter which one you choose there are dudes who know the game really well, but we have guides in the OP and the Anons here are usually pretty good with advice.
