What does Veeky Forums think about the WRX?

what does Veeky Forums think about the WRX?

Guaranteed to race you at a stop light

If you can get past the stereotype, it seems like a perfectly reasonable car to own.

i'm wanting a sports sedan under $30k and the WRX seems like the only option

I considered BMW too, but the reliability / maintenance concerns me

shit car for faggot boyracers

Positives
>affordable
>300HP with a cheap tune
>best AWD system you can have
>simple, no nonsense, it-just-works interior
>the best visibility a modern car can have
>easy to work on engine bay
>decently reliable
Negatives
>haha vape

Great car. Too bad about the insurance and the other drivers.

probably think you're an edgy high schooler and going to stay clear of your dumb ass

>letting a group of faggots influence what not to buy
Shame on you insecure betas

No joke it was the middle of the night and some I assume kid was trying to race me on the highway in his WRX. OK, fine, we were both speeding.

But guess who got a trooper up his ass? Maybe he just shouldn't have been driving like a jackass, but jackass + WRX was obviously a bad idea.

I like it, but it's a shame it doesn't come in a wagon anymore. Fuck you Subaru for not bringing the levorg here all because of SoJ and SoA disagreeing over what it should be fucking called

This. The WRX wagon was perfection on wheels as a do-anything car.

Here's the Veeky Forums rundown on the WRX
>vapes
>flat brimmed hats
>fat chicks
>speeding tickets
>brotella motor oil
>asians
>IT career
>vapes
>asuh doo
>downpipes
>blow off valves
>iintakes w/o tune
>spun bearings

other than that it's a relatively fast, practical sports sedan.

oh I forgot a couple
>hella horns
>blued titanium exhaust tips
>scorched clutches

>mfw zero of those apply to me and my soob

>no COBB access port

>tfw no k4rtboy short shifter
>and then unironically liking it

I would say the interior for its price range is pretty crappy.

It's a great car and a pretty reliable one, too given that you're not a complete retard. Just keep in mind that Veeky Forums is hyper autistic and most people don't care what you drive.

just get a legacy they're the same thing

Nah. Longer wheel base. It's close and the better choice for a roomier familymobile, but it's not the same.

Agreed cunt

i wanted a wrx but i can find a lightly used mk7 golf r for the same price so i am likely going that route. overall the wrx is best in class at performance, but meh interior wise.

No turbo, no manual, and no wagon unless you want the lifted up outback and its ugly plastic body cladding.

Unless you meant an older one, then fuck yeah.

That's my only complaint about my 2015. Interior is pretty meh and the bluetooth issues with even the stock head unit is annoying.

Most of Veeky Forums takes the bus.

anything after 2007 is fucking garbage but if you are a reliability cuck what are you gonna do

Literally have $25k in the bank waiting for the announcement of a new WRX Wagon, until then I'm stubbornly keeping my '02 WRX Wagon with 316k miles alive with the finest Supertech™ 5w30 Synthetic Oil and SUBARU™ OEM Oil Filters.

Sadly, I'll still be able to get $5k out of this piece of shit when I go to sell it. IDK how the fuck Subaru does it.

If you ever wreck it or decide to part it out I'm interested in your engine and front subframe+crossmember.

You're definitely not interested in this engine, it's the original one and it blew HG's at 120k, fixed that and it's run without a hitch since then, aside from losing a quart or so of oil between changes.

>easy to work on engine bay
My friend's 2nd gen facelift Impreza WRX was absolute hell to work on because of the mess of hoses and wires. There is barely any room in it too.

>300HP with a cheap tune
>decently reliable
Pick one

>affordable
Vape tax to the point where clean, stock WRXs are more expensive than clean 986 Boxsters. Seriously; what the fuck? 150k miles and some shitty mods and the absolute animal of a seller wants $7k.

Also, allow me to make the negatives list for you
>cramped engine bay
>shitty oil pan from the factory
>unreliability scales exponentially with power increases
>clean examples are few and far between
>even mediocre examples are drastically overpriced due to the severe demand for these cars
>actually the worst fanbase on earth

Fucking this.

A rebuild isn't an issue for me, no matter what I get I'm going through it myself. I'm tired of leaks and shitty worn out piston rings in mine, if I'm putting in an engine it's going to be 100%, but I can't afford a brand new one so a rebuild it is for me.

This is one of the main reasons why I would get an accord over a WRX, the interior is just shitty. I also don't want a stick so the CVT is a killer.

>ugly plastic body cladding
YOU TAKE THAT BACK TWO-TONE PAINT JOBS AND BODY CLADDING ARE STILL "IN" YOU REPROBATE

Honestly I got the WRX because I wanted AWD for winter conditions and the power for merge/highway pulls and occasional autox. I came from an even more basic interior Civic so it was an upgrade to me but it's still meh.

I've heard from some reviews that CVT WRX is probably the best CVT you can get... But it's still a CVT.

>want AWD
>want autox
>want pulls
>doesn't get the manual

why

I like the two tone paint, just not unpainted black plastic cladding.

Your reading comprehension is fucking awful. I have a manual.

>unreliability scales exponentially with power increases

Welcome to tuning engines with stock internals.

this is probably the most postive subaru thread on this board.

Hello Texas buddy. hows it running?

The legacy GT and the WRX have identical hp numbers on paper. I think in the years they made the legacy GT it also shared a engine with the WRX but transmission and etc i'm not sure. They aren't common. I don't know why the legacy GT didn't catch on. To me, they should just make the WRX STI and the Legacy GT and get rid of the WRX all together. But I like my 2015, I like the new engine, I like that it IS easy to work on. I honestly have heard mixed reviews about how much the FA20 can handle and how reliable it is, i'm at 66,000 miles right now. I bought it at 46k last march so i'm projected to put about 22-23k a year on it as my daily. I have had no weirdo problems with it, other than the throwout bearing noise which i will fix when i go to do a new clutch. otherwise, i got a tune and a catback and I love my car. Honestly I couldn't be happier.

They should just get back in to the WRC again. Why else even still sell it in WRC blue?

Practicality is what helped make it great.

Gay man's EVO with a boxer as icing on the shit cake. If god was real then mitsubishi wouldn't have turned into complete shit.

And yet here we are.

>bike racks

Of course they still sell it in WR Blue Pearl. Why wouldn't they?

>>cramped engine bay
Its not cramped at all, you can see through the thing to the floor unlike the BRZ
>shitty oil pan
the oil pan is fine, if you're racing it yea you might run into that on a super high G turn but otherwise never

>clean examples
just like clean civics

have fun voiding your warranty

That line between shekels and claiming heritage. I bought one with a fake scoop because that's how it came and they needed to sell more scoops to meet the rules.

But I wouldn't buy one in that color because everybody knows that's for vaping teenagers who think it's cool.

Some modern cars are reliable enough that you can pretty much ignore the warranty. If you just get a couple bolt-ons and a safe tune, there is a very high chance you're not going to have problems with a WRX. If you do, it's a Subaru, not a Mercedes or some other moneypit.

>Some modern cars are reliable enough that you can pretty much ignore the warranty
You fucking paid for the warranty, Subaru will flat out refuse to service your car if they ever find out you plugged a tuner into it.

That hasn't been my experience with Ford and Cobb tuners, but, I wouldn't be surprised. I've heard stories about Subaru being at AutoX events to mark down which vehicles are participating so as to document abusive driving (and deny associated warranty claims).

I'm pretty much not going to touch a cobb tuner until my warranty runs out.

you've got no fucking idea what you're talking about and you look like a full blast idiot. Had to sell more scoops? are you fucking stupid? you know it funnels air over the intercooler right? now you do, you fucking tard

Doesn't funnel shit if they block it off with pieces of plastic and there isn't an intercooler anyway. It just sells more of the same type of hoods and parts and works in to it being profitable to keep the racing up per the homolagation rules.

Kind of like if you've ever been to a redneck race and they try to make you think your Malibu is anything like what's going around the track just because the aero hanging on to the roll cage looks vaguely like it.

i had a 06 wrx that grenaded the transmission right after i bought it, guess the previous owner was a jackass. the car was fully catless and stage 2, subaru warrantied the thing no problem and didnt make a single fuss about it

it all depends on the dealer

Interesting replies.
Should I opt in for a decently loaded wrx or a wrx sti

13 and before STI
14 and after get the WRX

Interior is still shit. If they were passable (especially for the money), hadn't gained too much weight, and didn't understeer like a motherfucker i.might have bought one a couple years back.

An excellent car for skiing. Seriously, it's awesome for getting around mountains.

thats why i bought one actually, now im too broke from maintenance to go skiing

Can you seriously drive up a mountain with one of those?

yes why wouldnt you, you dont need tons of ground clearance on any road up to a mountain since its going to be plowed regularly and at worst you will just plow the snow out of the way with the bumper. as long as you have winters on you are good

>not including rally armour mud flaps

>High power, for the low cost
>All wheel drive, so unlikley to slip too much
>Comfy enough to fit 5 people in

Is there really anything else in the same category?

I thought you meant going literally up the mountain slope. I figure any car with winter tires and a trunk can fit skis and go up a road.

could you explain pls?

I had a 2014 WRX. Accessport, catback exhaust, cold air intake. The engine had a rod bearing fail right under 30k miles.

The dealer fixed it under warranty, but I traded it in as I got it back for a 2017 STI.

Having more than 2 doors on your car makes you a total dick sucker.

Do the AWD turbo golfs get anywhere near them on price?

What about the AWD stinger, can you have the TTv6 with the AWD system on those?

have a 2017 WRX leased while waiting for the F-series engine on new STI. insurance and payment and gas for me under 500$ a month. fun car while still being practical.

The only complaints i really have are cupholders get in the way if you have anything but a phone in them.
>food or drink in car
and the armrest is really low. they make an extension but
>driving with one hand in the first place

Taken it on a few trips and is a comfy enough ride. Clutch isn't heavy but it really isn't light. Rev hang like a mother fucker.

Would consider keeping for 10+ years if 2019/2020 is shit.

ford fusion? AWD version is priced slightly lower than the STI but still more than WRX, so really nothing beats WRX

What if pic related becomes the new WRX?

This looks like normie shit desu

Give it bug eyes

It already has tiny spider like eyes

>Bug eyes
Gheeeeeer-OEZ.

marketing director of subaru saying its LIKELY to be a hybrid cuz of eurofucks emission laws.

>hybrid
>hoodscoop
For real? Maybe not all bad if "hybrid" in this sense just means it gets some extra oompf from the electrics rather than gimping it out and having it be a little FWD turbo with some electric motors in the rear or whatever.

2007-2014 WRXes (and still all STIs in North America since 2004) use the 2.5L EJ25 engine, after 2014 they switched to the 2.0L FA20. This is a more modern, and is (generally considered to be) better performing and more reliable.

The STi will eventually switch to the FA20 or some other new engine, but probably not for another couple years.
