Thing is, you're supposed to be on her side. This would be fine if she were an antagonist, a foolish side character who got on a boat to show the audience and the rest of the cast why that's a bad idea, or if no one was around to tell her that it was dumb. There's also a legitimate reason to be pissed, to doubt the authorities of the island, and to think that it might be a good time for a change of leadership. If their purpose is to protect them, then why isn't the problem explained to them followed by a choice of living out their lives on the island or training for hibernation? That's much better than secrets that will inevitably get exposed, just like they did. Why couldn't the writers build off of that? It wouldn't take any more effort. How do you build this up and then take the dumbest possible route for your drama?
