The battle system is pretty good. It's a decent Megaman-themed RPG.

The problem was Cain didn't copy X's special chip that made him immune to the Maverick virus. If he did that, things would be fine. Sure you'd have some robots that decide being a criminal is a good idea, but that only makes them closer to real humans.

Here's an interesting observation.

When you load up Megaman 1 and enter the stage select screen, your cursor hovers over Cutman's stage by default. Even though you can freely go to any of the stages you like, this design choice of hovering over Cutman's stage implies that Cutman is the "first level" and I'll argue that it actually is, as I believe Cutman's stage to be the easiest and Cutman himself is weak against Megaman's buster gun.

For Megaman 2-6, your cursor position is oriented at the middle of the screen by default. No level, it's just Megaman's face. There is no "default first stage." You are entirely on your own to choose an order.

In Mighty No9, after the intro city stage, the stage select screen is a chronologically list of each Mighty Number's stage from 1 to 8 and by default the cursor is on Mighty Number 1 Pyrogen's level. This, I believe, has been a detriment to Mighty No9.I believe that Pyrogen's stage is actually the hardest of the eight stages, it is chalk full of platforming over bottomless pits, precision platforming, and towards the end full of all sorts of instant death in the way of getting hit by the background pillars that fall and the fireballs knocking you into bottomless pits. Then you finally get to Pyrogen and I honestly believe he's the hardest one to beat without his weakness as his moves are very difficult to read and you will inevitably take tons of damage. What's more, he has an insta-kill move.

I've read some of the negative steam reviews of this game and I've read many points mentioning how "the game is full of instant death," that's really not true. That's really just on Pyrogen's stage. I think a lot of people just played Pyrogen's stage because they thought it was "level 1" and got a bad taste in their mouth over it. Had they made Battalion "Mighty Number 1" the default first stage on the list or if they copied the Megaman 2-6 idea of making the default stage a non-choice, I think people would've liked the game much more.

tl;dr mn9 is a bad game full of instant death and bad design choices. youre welcome.

I like it enough that I've beaten the game like six or seven times since getting it, but it does have a lot of flaws. It's an interesting game for me to deconstruct because of how infamous it is.

Did anyone here actually pull it off? After the game came out I actually tried really hard, had a save with all 8 stages done without dmg, which was the easy part since you can save between stages, but I'd always end up getting hit along way in the castle. Most of the times I'd get hit in the boss rush of all things by goddamn Magma Man...
My Wii version of the game has been forever stuck at 98% challenges...

After beating ZX A and reading the ZX manga I've decided to replay ZX but this time on Hard using Aile. I literally couldn't stop thinking about both games all week end long.

One question, can't find the info on FAQs:

So apparently Hard mode has no hp+ and only 1 e tank, is that correct? So what happens to the locations/sidequests that are supposed to have those hp+ and e tanks? Do you get other rewards instead?
