Does insight have any effect on gem drops?

I don't think so. I've done 1500 runs so far with 99 insight and only get about 2 oos drops per 100 runs.

Vanilla beast claw ruined other weapons for me, it was one of those instances where I fell in love with a weapon the second I got it.

How are vanilla claws? I'm working on my claw build and haven't gotten either the Loran chalice or killed the two hunters guarding Laurence's skull.

I just find them fun

The range is shit but the dps is actually pretty good, fast attack speed and respectable damage, good for PvE.

Not a great PvP weapon but they're fun, make sure you master jumping attacks as in my opinion it's the best attack in your arsenal.

Different opinions for different people, for me I just can't get the hang of using them. The moveset just feels awkward to me

Yes, but only in their tricked form and not particularly fast using any attacks other then the L2's, which give your bar a nice meaty chunk with every hit.
