Just buy an account if you're ever going to spend a dime on this at all. Otherwise, yes, as f2p having even the option in gachashit is fairly important. As long as you have a good start, you can save as long as you need/want.

you will have no SSR characters so it's going to suck. you need at least a few on the same color so you have something to work towards while farming. it's one of the biggest weaknesses of the game because until you get a focus color you're just wandering aimlessly and not knowing where to dump all your time.

save up a bunch of crystals, do story missions and other stuff til premium gala which isn't for a month since we just had one, and pray for your 10 rolls to give you something good.

Except, that's what they are doing. That's what side stories is for. HRT era reruns generally also meant getting sequels as well, so you ended up getting 3 tickets worth of CRYSTALS as well as other shit in the boxes and honor rewards.
