see, if they were up front about it I wouldn't have a problem, and it would STILL be safer than the bike

it's arguable if an unsafe car is safer than a bike. on a bike you're covered in armor to protect you from the road, so as long as you don't hit anything you should come out with a couple broken bones. in an unsafe car there are more variables. a weak point between the front seat and the steering wheel would smash your little body between the two, or if the airbag wasn't timed properly then your chest would be pulverized by the force of it releasing.

and in america, Convenience is King. we eat bleached flour, sucrose, HFCS, daily because it's cheap and it's easily accessible even though we know these things are borderline poisonous. so when these cars are sold it won't be 'they're death traps that are built with questionable quality', it's 'they're cheap and you need a ride so come grab this one and have fun!'

just putting some sense into this thread. the only reason korean cars were successful is because they were cheap AND safe. hyundaiusa.com/research-tools/reviews-awards.aspx so if the chinese companies come into it, they'll have to undercut korean cars by a fair margin and then we're left with a ton of shit floating around the auto market.
