It probably wasn't maintained well. Repairs are going to be a bitch. All the stuff is going to fail in 50k miles. The seats have been farted in and they're worn out, no longer have that new tight feeling. Premium fuel is going to be a bitch.

I've never heard that a BMW depreciates quicker.
But that is part of my reasoning. Why pay all that money for a new car that is going to be a loss on investments? That's why I wanted to buy a decent used model. So I'm a bit confused as to why you suggested buying a new one is better.

Maybe I should have said the original reason I wanted to change cars. It's because the front pillars are too big and the door panels are too high. That, and the seats being so low make it hard as hell to see pedestrians. And I hit a telephone box because of this, too.

The bmw 3 series loses 57% of it's value over 5 years whereas the civic loses 46%. Not a huge difference, but the bmw definitely depreciates faster.
