I really don't know who it's supposed to appeal to. You could say kids, because it was advertised as having every single character, who along with the next big plot twist are what people like best about the series. But the characters do fucking nothing. They're just as much soulless automatons as they are in the other games. And it's still too hard for kids to complete, same as the rest of the games in the series.
Also, it was apparently so bad it was removed twice.

But it's still not the worst game in the series. The sequels have it beat out for that.
Reddit's criticism for World seems to stem from the unanimous obsession those kids have with meaningless plot twists and spoiling as much story as possible. Like how there were people who disliked Suicide Squad, but only because Joker "wasn't in it as much".

The game is targeted towards lorefags if anything, with all the Afton and Purple Man bullshit. The focus on narrative as well makes it easier to watch on youtube, which is what most of the fanbase does with the games.

Night 4, Night 5, and Private Room are boring at best. Scott padded the game out with RNG segments like Night 4 or Private Room because the game was short as fuck otherwise. Ballora and the Freddy segments were alright. The rest is pretty bad, mon amie.
The focus on story makes it inexorably tied to the atmosphere, and thus the gameplay, as it's a horror game. So, yes, we have to knock it down for having a shitty story.
Ballora did have a nice design though.

SL is a piece of shit in every conceivable aspect, from the melodramatic, pretentious, pseudo-intellectual """story"" to the fucking dull-ass gameplay that completely misses the point of what made FNAF unique and interesting and instead replaces it with a bunch of generic, repetitive minigames that are about as fun as playing with your own boogers. The art direction is an overblown mess with no cohesive aesthetic and makes no goddamn sense for a series that was relatively grounded in all previous installments. That one seems iffy to me. Good story though. I liked the way you handled the different changes. They struck me as being opposite to their in-game functions, with Bonnie being super laidback instead of an aggressive douchebag,
