Just wondering, how are weapons besides short swords on asura?

They're fine. SS and Katanas are mainly used because of their innately higher M.Atk, but Asuras are far from locked into a specific weapon type.

despite everything in the game hinting at asuras using short swords they're pretty much worse than katanas on them
they have more matk but asura has very few percent skills and even then they raise the cooldowns of those skills in exchange, katanas have slightly more int which helps shore up the matk gap a little bit and helps fixed damage skills
katanas being faster also helps a bit since a lot of asura skill animations care about that
that being said since asuras are mainly fixed damage classes and independent attack is the same across all weapons you're not losing much by using a bludgeon or a zanbato, at most those are costing you the attack speed and the bit of intelligence the other two have

No, you can also get plats from synthing gold emblems (rarely). Yes, it's only random normally. We've had selectable plat emblem boxes from lost treasures a few times, though, so if you need something expensive best to wait for those to be back.
