Say I have 100 stock at $13.5.

I put a sell-stop at 14.00. I would expect the order not to execute until the stock reaches 14.00, at which point I'll get a price around there.

Conversely if I put a buy-stop at 13.00, I would expect the order to not execute until the stock reaches that price from the 13.50 I was originally at.

Now I'm using investopia, and I did the above to find my 13.72 purchase sold at 13.74 when I put 14.10.

Still not sure what happened. Only lesson I learned is that I should have had a stop less set for JDST and a limit order set for JNUG. I'll remember it well. I could have got out earlier and recouped my losses. I considered doing it, but decided that the volatility made false positives too likely.

I'm new to stocks. I had a very hard time understanding why people were going crazy for JDST when it's the inverse of gold. JNUG being the same as gold. I would think that a rise in rates means inflation is going to get curbed meaning dollar stronger and metals not worth holding because they don't grow.

But there is still so much uncertainty in the economy after years and years of increased money supply + unknown status of border taxes, congress seems divided, new president, new fed people coming, wages stagnant, and then the rates raised but very little. I think it all points to uncertainty. Meaning people would probably want to hold gold until things are more clear. Would kind of make you think gold would be a higher demand. no?

Once yellen indicated that future hikes will come slowly, the uncertainty the market was worried about was addressed, since higher rates are bad for gold and yellen indicated that rate increases will be slow to come, gold goes up.

I would look at their share structure, the news that went out, the price it was at, the market cap the price action leading up to the pop... all sorts of shit. i did this for about 6 months- 1 year. After doing this everyday i found what to look for in stocks.

try to relate supply and demand with share structure.
Lets say for simple math a company has 1,000,000 shares outstanding. each share is $1 that puts you at a market cap of $1,000,000
If that company starts selling shares, lets say 1,000,000 due to debt conversions, officer and directors salries or even just general fund raising.
this adds another 1,000,000 shares to the outstanding shares so now the company has 2,000,000 shares those shares "theoretically" bring the price down because if the company is only worth $1mill then the shares now will only be $.50 because .50x 2,000,000 is 1mil (the market cap)

Look for that kind of thing and stay away if the company always does this.

outstanding is shares that are held by insiders or have not been sold into market, once in the market they become the float.

Now that you see how the shares kinda work, it goes deeper than that but lets keep it simple for now

Lets say there is 1,000,000 shares outstanding and 20% is owned by insiders that leaves 800,000 now if institutions own 20% that leaves 600,000 in the float for everyday traders. Lets say 10% of that is short and the rest of the shares are being held by bulls and good news comes out bringing in some volume, you could have a runner
