aw shit my rouge is cracked? really should have checked it in the mirror before leaving the house
Jace Lewis
Congratulations for the longest and deadest roguelike general in the last five years by the way
5 whole days, that's 120 hours of uptime that's a posting average of 6 posts per hour with 7 posts every fourth hour. I want to believe it was some sort of clever commemoration.
Brody Clark
Dead general, no one here genuinely likes roguelikes, but at least we have no tripfags who talk about things unrelated to roguelikes, no waifuvermin and no shills.
Blake King
you know, i didn't play a single roguelike for the entire lifetime of that thread
Jason Martin
I dunno about you guys but I simply have my interest in these threads fluctuate from day to day.
Connor Thomas
you have animeposters and shills though
David Torres
...
Blake Hill
The only "shill" right now is the tangledeep falseflagger. Animeposters only post stupid pics, but don't derail threads. There were some /pol/tards, but they either left or understood that one global rule that makes them equal to bronies.
Asher Roberts
sure are a lot of rogue likes in this here thread, eh
Mason Myers
>falseflagging Fuck you, I legitimately love Tangledeep.
Jeremiah Allen
Hi /dcssg/ how are those 'updates' going?
>tfw the Elona general in /jp/ is more alive than /rlg/ as a whole Kinda saddens me desu, Brogue was some of the most fun I have had playing videogames and I only discovered it because of you guys.
Robert Moore
/jp/ is full of actual autists though, /rlg/ just has people who pretend to be spergs
Jose Harris
>/dcssg/ >when there was so much PCB
Jaxson Richardson
/rlg/ has too many normies. We need proper ToME autists who stack numbers and do statistic analysis, not >muh tite design >I don't actually know what I want, I just complain about shit I don't like or oat satan tier low functioning autists who just grind.
Justin Bell
>ToME >Austists If it has tiles, it's for casuals and you have to make your own challenge rules to make it fun. Easy as that.
Kevin Price
You CAN play ToME in ASCII, though
Easton Lewis
where's your madness win if it's so casual, nigger?
Austin Stewart
ToME above normal is pretty autismal. To finish insane, you need to be a genuine sperg. To finish madness, you have to be so deep in the spectrum that you need inverse Fourier transform just to interact with real world.
Kayden Ramirez
Tome's ascii looks like PCB's tiles, though. You can't customize it for shit because the ascii is actually just tiles that look like ascii and that's because the ToME engine is a complete joke. Even ADoM managed to actually get a decent font set and it has eldritch tentacles.
>To whom it may concern: Kevin knows best. If you think he doesn't, debate with him civily until you realize why kevin is right.
>I have debated with him several times, and can credit myself no wins to date. Much to my frustration, though I'm pretty sure I have gotten a few suggestions through.
>Kevin and the other devs are all human and capable of error, but are quick to correct any bug or mistakes.
tl,dr: Cata Devs can make mistakes, minus Kevin.
Kevin's Defense Force so incapable of defending their autistic leader they trip over their own arguments.
Anyway, what you guys think the game would be like if Whales never left?
>Dude gives sane suggestion where one of his points is to make heavy weapons skill so miniguns don't use fucking Rifles skill to shoot.
>"How do any of the alternatives improve it in any meaningful way? If you merge shotguns and rifles, the minigun still won't fit in either."
God fucking hell, can you even read Kevin?
Wyatt Miller
Stop trying to make drama on the forums, Coolthulu is really nervous about forking the project by himself and you're literally (bibliographically) just making it harder for him.
Jayden Carter
>Anyway, what you guys think the game would be like if Whales never left? We have been blessed enough to see the trainwreck that was cataclysm 2.
Adam Jackson
It's an action adventure! Ofcourse.
Oliver Ortiz
>blocks your coding.jpg Chortled hard
Ethan Turner
Why do I have the feeling you are Coolthulu?
Zachary Ramirez
He probably reads DDA IRC. t. logged on DDA IRC
Dominic Johnson
Nethack is cool
Ayden Bennett
I read him on DDA IRC, that he lurks /rlg/, specially when he commented that he liked when the IA dev trips in this thread.
Aiden Nguyen
Well, the other reason for why he can't be him is that I am Spartacus.
Gabriel Cox
There's not such meme in the IRC. Hence you are Coolthulhu.
Brandon Scott
The other guy isn't, though. I mean, DCSS
Julian Bell
And now I'm starting to think that you are Astraltor or knocktwi
Kevin Green
My name is Kevin, and I hate every single one of you.
Leo Thomas
You sound like Kevin's wife.
William Murphy
Working as intended
Aiden Cox
Regarding above posts- I feel like in the recent years the ToME community became more toxic than many competitive multiplayer titles populations out there :/ it's not even constructive criticism, just plain trolling. I don't know why such things are allowed on these forums.
Jackson Garcia
More skills just add more bloat though.
Charles Ortiz
Kevin stated his intention to add more skills to handle all the edge cases.
Elijah Reed
Really? I had hopes after they merged fabrication and construction.
Caleb James
Wasn't Cool the one who pushed that one?
Jonathan Ramirez
Wouldn't know. I don't keep up with the behind the scenes stuff.
Luke Young
Future of DDA: >spend 10 minutes waking up due to low "waking up" skill >brush teeth 5 times (4 first times failed due to low skill) >pick up trusty overpowered katana - the only weapon you have skill in, because "japanese swords" is a separate skill from "western swords", but it's OK because you can mass-craft katanas so never need any other melee weapon >pick up a laser gun - the only kind of a gun you have >1 skill in, because "carbine", "battle rifle", "sniper rifle" and "hunting rifle" are all different skills with no cross-training between them >manually pick up your crops because medieval japanese peasant simulator with laser guns is realistic >the crops don't drop much because your "picking crops" skill is too low >go to town to kill roaming hordes that never approach your farm >don't use drugs other than painkillers, because it's realistic that drugs suck and there is no reason to use them >the town is full of hulks, but it's OK because they have no AI and thus you can trivially kite them, because zombies with AI are unrealistic
Aiden Lopez
>pick up trusty overpowered katana >overpowered katana >overpowered
It was nerfed, the zwei is better now.
John Barnes
>tfw you will never become Kevin Why even live?
Logan Flores
Alright let settle this, Skirmisher vs Archer, who wins?
Archer is def stronk right now in tome, capable of almost oneshotting every single enemy you see with bullshit aim, poison arrow, called shot and concealment combo. However if you're not Skelebro they seem to be bretty squishy early to mid game.
However. Skirmisher is a bretty cheeky cunt capable of ignoring obstacle and enemies and hit someone at the back no prob. Plus they'll never ever run out of stamina and have higher resist than Archer. They also have more debuff that stack and proc more than Archer iirc.
Sebastian Anderson
Archer is by far the best class outside of Madness because you can dump 50k damage on anything before you see them. They also have more than enough durability to take hits on Insane so Skirm should really just be removed.
Julian James
Did I fuck up? I play a Yeek Solipsist and put points into the Solipsism talents as soon as they became available. Now I have 102 max hp on level 11 and everything hits me for half of my max hp. Also no damage shields since I went anti-magic.
How do I get more survivability?
Julian Gutierrez
if you rolled a yeek solipsist (grand total of 1.5 life rating) and expected to have max hp you should be extremely disappointed
Gavin Perez
Yes, but it seems my class only has shields that absorb 50% of the incoming damage. I mean archmages can have low hp and get away with their infinite bubbles.
Do I need to stack gear with +maxHP?
Jaxson Cook
But I genuinely like tangledeep.
Brayden Hall
>Skirm should really just be removed. I don't think they'll be removed. Most likely they'll be reworked just like Archer did. I agree that Archer is pretty strong though and Skirmisher needs a buff but their current version is not so bad, just downright inferior compared to Archer.
Carson Smith
>went anti-magic That would be your problem. If you're a super squishy damage shields aren't really optional.
Asher Barnes
Hi, original tangledeep poster here. I'm just doing it to bump threads.
Nicholas Howard
on other boards I would anime post just to make newfags cringe to death or whatever their damage it, but i've learned alot just by lurking here and resent the idea that this general is worthless.
also the animeposters are on /jp/elona+, here is "ascii or go home"
Jordan Scott
Cool wanted "Abstract" skills. Kevin was shittalking him for that.
Brandon Ward
Anything new out lately?
Jason Williams
tangledeep
Adrian Morales
Brb pirating it now. Also, what torrent software do you spergs use?
Brandon Cruz
headless qbittorrent instance on a home server
Parker Bailey
>torrenting >wanting to destroy your computer with dolphin porn &/or chink trojans
Dylan Martinez
While we're on the subject has anyone pirated Dungeonmans here? Is it fun?
Luis Adams
Yes. No.
Angel James
Are there roguelike streams anywhere? Not just watching a game like you could in DCSS servers but see the actual guy and interact with him in live like in Twitch. If I find nothing then I'm probably just going to do it myself over there, I want to have a comfy afternoon
Thomas Taylor
You can "follow" games on twitch and if you check your following page 24/7 once in a blue moon you will catch someone play very old and obscure games like "Angband" or "NetHack".
Adam Rodriguez
i will be streaming Rogue in 2050+
Justin Morris
Nice. Welp, maybe in a few hours I will grab a beer and play some DCSS there so that someone might come and laugh at me for not even knowing how to get past Lair with MiBe
Jeremiah Reed
>hanging out on angband.live because loser >some xorn goofus is clearing the Forest because he didn't get the memo >go to sign a BM treaty >come back >find this
Anthony Perez
>some xorn goofus is clearing the Forest because he didn't get the memo What memo?
Julian Bailey
it's outrageously inefficient to visit since it's so wide open, there are so many hounds, and none of the animal-type monsters drop items - in one case, the guy also spent half an hour looking for an artifact on the floor (which turned out to be Thengel, of course)
Anthony Kelly
>(which turned out to be Thengel, of course) Poor bastard.
Owen Clark
Why'd you need to spoiler that user? Are these autists bullying you? The game looks fun. I'll need to wait until it's out of early access though.
Jason Bennett
wait are you telling me that spoilers aren't surprise boxes?
Christopher King
They're how you whisper on the internet friendo
Josiah Rogers
>working as intended
Benjamin Torres
Funny thing, the name kevin is a meme in germany
Juan Wilson
What old version of stone soup is the best? I'm not really interested in the features of the more modern versions. The first version I've ever played was 0.16 so I'm leaning towards going back to that but I've heard a lot of good things about 0.15 and 0.14. I'm just not sure what to go with because I'm not sure what the differences are between those versions.
Jose Ortiz
I refuse to believe this is sincere
Robert Barnes
I would like to say "play last version haha" but seeing how every version means they cut random content and features and add something with agrees with the philosophy of DCSS, the game becomes more boring each version. And I still haven't beated it because I suck at videogames
Bentley Wood
MuMo
Gabriel Garcia
play after 0.19 or you are mysoginst because you don't want female sigmund
Jayden Howard
did they seriously make sigmund a tranny what the actual fuck
dcss was never good but probably 0.14
Gavin Lee
Thankfully, they haven't gotten to Sigmund yet. Grinder is a chick now, though.
Jordan Long
0.15-16 is a good choice if you want a good balance between features and removals
0.10-12 is a good choice if you want "classic" crawl, before the removals really ramped up and the gameplay was streamlined
just remember that the earlier you go, the more crawl becomes a roguelike, and the later you go, the more it becomes a hack 'n' slash
Tyler Morris
Grinder's always been a bitch
Jack Garcia
Anything up until 0.15, 0.16, after that it just went downhill
Landon Barnes
mibe
Thomas King
nethack
Austin Cooper
to be honest i dont even remember, it's some kind of yuri 4koma that i stopped reading 2 chapters in because i didn't like most of the humor
Joshua Sullivan
thanks for all the advice i guess i'll try a couple different versions to see what "fits" better i'm looking for something about halfway between current DCSS and nethack in terms of complexity so .10 - .15 sounds pretty good i could always try poschengband again but i don't really like the focus on grinding or the overworld, i just wanna be in a dungeon making the best of what is available to me without it being totally braindead
