I've had the very very rare match against people with japanese characters in their name but I'm not sure that's definitive evidence.

You can team up in all modes that allow for it. But you won't run into your friend in random matches unless you life close to japan.

The game is region free. Matchmaking is based on IP location.

As an Aussie; I'm regularly paired up with the Japanese, but Australia shared it's Splatfest with the US, so shit be wack yo.

I think I know how to nerf sloshers. Make the ink arc more realistically. Max range would be achieved by shooting at a 45-degree angle (maybe less so you can still see your enemy). You'd still be able to aim directly at people, but then enjoy your halved range, and at range it'll be hard to aim because of travel time. Sloshing capability would be unchanged.

Brella, Slosher and Rapid Blaster all feel relatively similar. Not sure which one I should pick.

Yes. The switch isn't region locked.

You can party up for Turf War, Salmon Run, and League battles.
Ranked is solo-queue only.
Switch is region-free, so just making a JP account on your US switch gives you access to the JP store.

Yes, the way the systwm works is in normal matchmaking you are paired with whoever is closest to you. This means generally you will be playing within your own region, but if there's a lack of players it is still possible you will pair with people further away, and there is no restrictions on teaming up or playing with people in other regions.
