VW Golf or GTI

Burger here,

Looking for a new DD and I've been drawn to the VW Golfs/GTIs lately.
Is the increase in HP worth the extra cost/using premium fuel over a regular GOLF model?
What are your thoughts/advice Veeky Forums?

Elantra GT Sport

GTI’s are fun as fuck

t. 300bhp GTI owner

try a polo GTI all the fun, with a little less practicality and costs a fair bit less.

Yes. Golf GTIs are pretty fun to justify cost for gas.

Fuck it, just run 50/50 ethanol and premium

Fuck you mean "premium fuel"? GTIs in yurop run regular 95 RON just like all other Golfs.

it is still quite fuel efficient. Unless you are driving the piss out of it, you're not going to see too much of a loss.

Get a Mustang gt instead.

Elantra gt sport is just a Korean GTI. Little cheaper for the 220hp in the Hyundai than the higher trim GTI

>To kill kerbs like a mad man.

Can I get a Polo here in the USA?

I don't drive that much to go to work. Hell, I only fill up my current car like every 2-3 weeks and that thing has a City MPG of like 16.

Get a golf GTI.
Even my salvage MK4 for is a shit ton of fun.
The fuel economy isn't anything amazing but isn't bad either. It's a little less efficient than my old Camry but the entertainment is worth it.

I own a base model 2.5L n/a MKV golf. Trust me, get the GTI...preferably the MT version because the DCI tiptronic is a moneypit. The ~170hp the i5 puts out isn't bad but it's a little bit gutless unless you put money into a tune. Still it's fun to drive, but not as fun as a turbo i4.

If you don’t need space for passengers try the Polo GTI if you have them over there, plenty of cargo space with the seats down, still fun, only slightly slower than the golf gti and much cheaper. I think you guys have the mk6 now so you should be able to get the mk5 cheaper. If you want dsg get the golf though, the one in the polo is piss weak

Get the gti. Decent dual clutch. $600 flash and it makes 316bhp and 381btq

Get the GTI then and enjoy yourself.

>Get the GTI then and enjoy yourself.

Sounds like a plan

GTI, you'll enjoy the additional upgrades and the red interior accents

I have a base mk7 golf.

Worth it, test drove a gti and could't afford it.

Its fun as fuck

>living in the land of cheap v8s and buying a eurocuck mobile
Kys

>VAGina group
>anything
3k civic is better.

I have a 2017 GTI Sport. Worth every penny. Great complete package of comfort, power, and fun. DSG is a great transmission, and a worthy replacement for a traditional 6-speed.

>buying the auto
kys

>cheap v8s
Where?
Cheapest Mustang with a V8 I can find is $40k and Camaros have fucking I-4s or a V6 for $40k.

buy used dumbass.

Fuck used.
I made that mistake once and it costed me a ton. I'm buying new because that bitch is gonna have a warranty.

I haven't been able to find a Sport trim at all.
I've been considering special ordering one.

>i'm too much of an idiot to pick a good example of a used car
>i need a warranty because i have no money set aside
kys poorfag.

I have a 2009 Toyota 4runner that was inspected and everything.
Still had problems that only would've been seen unless you stripped/inspected every little inch of the car.

My Ford Focus before my current car was new and because I took care of it, it never had problems even waaay after the warranty had expired

I'd rather have something new and not have it fucked by anyone so I know it will last long. I plan on keeping this car for like 7-10 years.

Around me there are only S and Autobahn trims. I wan either a Sport or SE tho.

Don’t buy a second hand VAG. Either it’s been thrashed or the owner flipped it cause something is wrong or it ran out of warranty and they want something new because they don’t care about their car enough to keep it running out of warranty and probably didn’t maintain it well. Be aware that any tune will affect your warranty so if you want left foot braking don’t get one because throttle is disabled when brake is engaged and you can’t change this without a tune. Otherwise a fun little daily and you can do plenty of other things like suspension and intakes if you feel like it

What was wrong with the 4runner?

the fuel pump in my 2016 gti just failed and they have to get the parts from Singapore apparently it's going to take two weeks fuckin cunts

The previous owner wasn't doing oil changes or something regularly even tho the Carfax said it had gotten all it's usual maintenance.
After 5 montths of having the 4runner, the engine just took a dump all of a sudden. And then despite getting that fixed, there have been a slew of other problems with the ECU and the Transmission (the transmission problems are the dealer's fault tho after they worked on the engine).
At this point, I'm putting waaay more money in the car than what it's worth.

My little sister had gotten a 2nd hand VAG, BIG MISTAKE.
My rule with cars even before I was having problems with my Toyota was never buy used German cars. I swear everyone I know who's gotten a used VW or BMW pays for maintenance more than half the time.

They didn't go to the dealer for no reason. I bet you ran it low on oil or beat the shit out of it everyday

If your asking this question then your better off getting a base model golf and driving that until you decide that you want something more fun like a gti. You sound like you just want a cheap daily driver.

>I bet you ran it low on oil or beat the shit out of it everyday

I rarely drove it and it had all it's oil changes. I never did anything I wasn't suppose to do to it. It did have a lot of miles tho. For a car less than 10 years old, I believe it had like 150K on it.

I want something fun. I just want to make sure I'm getting what I pay for.

There is a good reason they are so popular.
GTI is a fun car to DD not too stiff not try hard cozy where it counts.

And if your serious about tinkering the aftermarket scene is very very active.
