I bought hoi4 and turns out it's not as horrifying as it was from what I've seen at launch
Some systems (production and equipment, focus) are really neat
Others (mostly experiences, army command organisation, surplus equipment, outdated planes/tonks) are pretty bad
Overall I found it pretty easy to jump into unlike hoi3 (but it's not Darkest hour/10)

I'll preface this by saying that if you're playing greedy you should be doing what you're doing anyway (peacing out separately and taking the minor trust hit).

I'm going by memory here but right click on your country and then, on the right hand side of this tab, left click the third option. Once you've done this and the map has changed, left click a province to show everyone you want it (it should turn red). If you want the same provinces as an ally, they will be keen to stop being your ally. You can also do this to see what provinces are of vital interest to other nations.

Play HPM as Brazil. Brazil has no threats since it's the strongest in Sudamérica. Japan is easy to play in vanilla and is good for learning the game. I haven't played Japan in HPM but it seems slightly more confusing.

turn the difficulty from normal to hard and you'll immediately see a difference in AI behavior
