All things to do with rotary engines and rotary powered cars, piston engines need not apply.

why are there only like 10 LHD FDs for sale in europe? FML

So how hard is it to rebuild a carbureted rotary ?

shits fucked m8
it's waaaaaaaay harder to do that than to rebuild an EFI rotary

Never mind, friend sent me the link and it’s a fuel injected motor

Rebuilding a rotary is quite simple in concept, but there are about 6 gorillion fiddly seals and springs to have to clearance and get just right, so it's important to have good resources on the specifics when doing it. If you take your time to get everything absolutely perfect, you can have one of the best running and longest lasting rotary engines out there. If you rush through it, you might grenade it the first time you break 3000. It's all about attention to detail and doing everything the right way. Look up videos on your specific model being rebuilt, there are lots of subtle changes from year to year to know about.

Pictures like these remind me how sexy the Mazdaspeed kit is for the RX8.

I wish so badly i could find a rx8 on the cheap.

How many of you fags even own rotary-powered cars?

How many of you are just posers?

that engine is fucking massive jesus christ

@18666180
this is completely off topic bait

I do, 12a bridgeport

can the renesis run on megasquirt?
is there a guide how to do megasquirt the 13b msp?

Shouldn't it have some sort of radiator?

Is it worth buying a 1988 RX7 or is it just a money pit ?? I know very little of rotary engines but would love to learn more about them. Just wondering if someone can list the pros and cons of it.

:^)

i also need this question answered but with the FB. Love the look of the FB but the thought of rotary scares me. thoughts on the FB?

It indeed is a beautiful body kit!

Blasphemy!

OP here, I daily an 04 RX-8 with a JDM engine

I'm afraid I can't really answer your question, all I've seen is Cobb accessport and versatune, the accessport can only be found used and I know nothing about versatune. There are very likely more options, I'm far from an expert on tuning software.

Aside from the standard stuff that applies to any old car, just test hot idle and start, and if it does well at both of those get it tested with an official Mazda tester. Any anons who have experience with these older models feel free to add on to my severe lack of useful information.

damn I remember a sticker album with cars like this

I find them sub 4000 all the time. Sub 1500 if the engine is bad.

Nice to see some other rotards

Basically i bought mine with plans for a rebuild. but it runs surprisingly strong. If you're looking for a used, high-mileage rx7, look for a naturally aspirated one, they typically last longer and are more reliable.

How's your LS swap coming along?

Radiator is mounted in rear

yea working at an exclusive rotary shop as a dust scraping bitch i've heard those, one guy spent over 5k $ on polishing and rebuilding the housing and housing walls, top seals and ports just to have the enging blow up after 5 seconds on first start (that one circle shaped thing on the side holding the apex seal was put on the wrong side) everything fell out the exhoust and the entire engine was scrap

Oh, so like in rallycross

Post your FC

Would you daily drive an FD for 60 miles a day? Contemplating on selling my FR-S for a mint FD with reliability mods.

does the RX-8 have an isolator(?)
i hear that the ignition is CANBUS linked and tied to the dongle

...

>rx7
>20,000 dollarydoos min
How can I justify this purchase?

It just feels right.®

I would in a heartbeat

>All but around 50 bought back and scrapped by Citroën

rotary swap everything!

I bought my FD for 6kUSD from Japan last June

Rebuilt motor 100+ compression on each bank
But I'm also a Canada fag. So I bought a few years newer so the US fags can't hike the price up like they normally do with cars 25 years or older

I'm getting a new one
Shitty fucking engine blew up when I revved it to 9K rpm
Are all piston engines this shit?

Absolutely beautiful!

This

Toppest of kek

so in a previous rotary thread, i was told the FC's diff can't take ~350+ hp/torque without failing eventually
what about the FD? would the stock FD diff be able to take 400 hp and ft/lb

Oh that's yours?
I was driving along the highway and spotted it out of the corner of my eye, thinking it was a Datto 1600.
Christ, that thing is fucking beautiful.

>that's just down the road from my house aye

My bugeye I'm getting up and running soon.

I believe so, had a mate of a mate who ran a full bridge single turbs 450hp who never mentioned any issues with diffs.

Of course an MSP can run on a MegaSquirt. Any engine can. Seriously. MegaSquirt's support rotary ignition, including our splits, natively. You just have to be knowledgeable enough to wire up a harness for the MS, and then tune it. I'm sure there's base maps out there to start with. Fact: one of the primary MS firmware developers is a rotard too.

I've got an MS3 that I'm swapping into my FD, replacing a PFC. An MSP cant be all that different.

Thanks mate - rare to find another perth lad on Veeky Forums, especially a rotorhead. bugeye is looking nice, especially with the V5s (my personal fav). what are your motor plans for it?

You can definitely see the NB in there.

>autistic revving
I love these threads.

Those are V4 Simmons, actually.

Plans are to fix the horrid backyard porting job, paint and put it back together, sort out the carby, do all other stuff for the roady then light up James St close to midnight on a Friday.

When the Spirit R can be imported into the US the pricehike is going to be obscene. Stupid fucking 25 year law.

If you don't want your gauges or power steering to work then yes. Just get an adaptronic piggy back ecu. You still need the oem ecu to even start the car, have power steering and gauges.

It would be fun but I wouldn't DD a rare car like that if your commute is that long. It's just not worth putting so many miles on it when you could putz around in a 3k Civic and not only save money but save the lifespan of your FD.

When I can afford it, I am DDing a Miata and an FD, peripheral port, twin turbo, cause fuck reliability.

We FUN now.

I've heard the absolute best RX7 differential is the S4 Turbo II diff

Its a clutch-type and apparently is really solid. Its good if you're launching your RX7, idk about how much hp/torque it can take though

youtube.com/watch?v=1HZ5qwqMrk4

I love my slow RX8

How many cylinders does an RX7 have guys?

An RX7 engine has exactly 0 cylinders

It could still have some, for example the brake and clutch master cylinders, clutch slave cylinder, and wheel cylinders if it has drum rear brakes.

That's why I specifically said engine.

>laughs in exploding engine after half a year

>Le apex seal mee-mee ecksdee

Seriously, anyone who can't perform the basic maintenance required to keep a rotary running perfectly doesn't have sufficient mental capacity to deserve a driver's license in the first place.

RX-500 prototype
1,873 lb
491cc single-rotor
247 hp

would a stock FC clutch be able to handle a bridgeported engine?

>laughs in exploding engine in a few seconds
You guys are faggots
LS a shit
I revved that thing to 9k and it fucking blew up
