I'd probably recommend the 600cc class if you're just getting into it like a Honda CBR600RR or Yamaha R6

Would it be cheaper to set up a New-ish ninja (post '12) for track use or an older 600 ('05ish)
I'm looking and they are around 3-4k, then certified gear for track (fireproof stuff, non shoe boots, etc.), then tires (sporty but not track slicks atm).
Then which is what has me wondering:
Gradual mods as I get more track experienced.
Say, changing shocks, parts delete, repairs, o-rings and gaskets breaking over time (higher tolerance on what engine), break system, etc.

Why would be changing the tire of a metric or an imperial unit bike be different?

With decent tires it'll handle hardpack well. It's not an Africa Twin though, and I only use it for commuting and touring. I have access to dual sports and enduros if I want to actually go offroad.

It's unfair to compare the versys to the fz07 and z650. They'll lose every time without question. It's a better built, slightly more expensive adventure/touring bike.
