Nasu is good at world building but it's clear Urobuchi is the best writer to ever touch the Fate series with the amazing writing of F/Z. Type-Moon should have kept him writing for them.

CCC is pretty brilliant. While Extra was a solid effort its very obvious that Nasu merely came in and rescued something that was a dumpster fire to the best of his ability rather than writing a good story from the start. The final product has seams and patches everywhere that make it clear how rotten the original was. CCC was a clean slate and the difference is clear.

Extella is an interesting house built on a foundation of sand. The whole thing is heavily predicated on Atilla, and as much as I like Atilla's design and think that she's better than she's given credit for, her central character conflict between her fundamental inhumanity and her emotions is too generic and doesn't get the evolution and polish that it needed to elevate it above that fairly banal starting point. I don't think it was IMPOSSIBLE to make Atilla good, in fact I like most of her bits in Grand Order and think her basic character can be very effective when adapted to her source legend. The problem is Extella did a shit job of that and mostly focused on the Alien Learns To Love part at the expense of the Explain How This Is Atilla The Hun part. Combine that with a truly excessive amount of dumb fanservice to the point where it damages the entire enterprise, and the compromises to the story that were made for the sake of the Dynasty Warriors gameplay base, and you have a skeleton so weak that the good bits hung on it can't help but make it collapse.
