Am I the only one who knows what a muscle car is?

72 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442

No, and I don't know why it's so difficult for people to figure out.
>Mustang: Pony Car (holy shit look at the name you gigantic retards)
>Cars created to directly compete with the Mustang (GM F-body, Chrysler E-body): Pony cars
>Larger, intermediate sized cars built off a standard coupe+sedan+wagon platform (GM A-body, Ford Fairlane/Torino platform, Chrysler B-body): Muscle cars
It's not about engine size or rated horsepower or whatever, it's how big the car is, what platform it's on, and what market segment it slots into. Of course, names getting switched around by generation means you usually have to specify that you're talking about a certain era, i.e. the Mercury Cougar nameplate starting out as a Mustang sister and ending as a Thunderbird platform mate.

You and have excellent taste, by the way, even if I always thought the '72 Cutlass's grille and squared-off Supreme haunches are kind of ehh compared to the beauty of the non-Supreme '70 and '71 models.

Objectively you fucking retard. Muscle and pony are two distinct classes of vehicles anyone who has even the most minute knowledge of cars knows this. It's comparing a Harley fatboy to a cafe bike

I want to strangle anyone who says this

>The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines muscle cars as "any of a group of American-made 2-door sports cars with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving."
this infuriates Veeky Forums

is the buick riviera of this era a muscle car? one of my favs

no

>British
>Paving the way for american words and decriptions.

1965 buick riviera was offered with v8s making 325 hp, 340 hp and a 360 hp 'Super Wildcat' version

>defines a muscle car using the word 'sports car'
The dictionary is fucking retarded.

Nah, the Riviera is what's usually called a personal luxury car- still traditionally V8 powered, FR and two door, but focused on driver comfort/luxury instead of raw power/handling. Think Thunderbird or Toronado. Personal luxury car is a kind of hard category to pin down sometimes though given fuckery where a car is explicitly called that in marketing (i.e. some generations of Monte Carlo) but shares the same underpinnings as the normal sedans, unlike the Riviera platform (E-body) which was used exclusively for the Riviera/Toronado/Eldorado trio.

>A muscle car, by the strictest definition, is an intermediate sized, performance oriented model, powered by a large V8 engine, at an affordable price.

This is what you should go by.

Still not muscle, it's a luxury car.

>A muscle car, by the strictest definition, is an intermediate sized, performance oriented model, powered by a large V8 engine, at an affordable price.
so, a mustang?

So it’s subjective, is it?

Nope, too small.

Mustangs aren't (weren't) intermediate, they're compact. 100-something inch wheelbase and built off the compact Falcon.

1980 turbo Trans Am, idc that it’s downsize/turbo cuckery, it’s unique and the black/gold does things to me peepee

>too small
>they're compact

what is "too small"

Like it says that's by the strictest definition, most people aren't strict.

Smaller than intermediate.

>Smaller than intermediate.
Oh, I understand now. Mustangs btfo

Yeh

Camaros are in the same class as Mustang, not muscle.

Smaller than an intermediate, obviously. There's no concrete measurements but in general companies of the era had three primary sizes- compact, intermediate, full-size. Pony cars slot into compact size-wise, but are usually their own thing chassis-wise, intermediate is the standard coupe/sedan/wagon platform that muscle cars fit into, and full-size is the 210+inch behemoth road-barges with the largest, thirstiest engines that were usually crammed into the midsize cars to make the muscle cars go.

To use the most boomer of companies as an example, in the late 60's: a Camaro is a pony car, a Nova is a compact, a Chevelle is an intermediate and a Biscayne is a full size.

Oh, and a Corvette is obviously a sports car but I don't think anyone's getting that one confused.

You mentioned Merrim Webster.

Plymouth Duster

You're both faggots. The Mustang is literally where the name "pony car" comes from.

...

...

And? Doesn't contradict the definition. All pony cars are muscle cars, but not all muscle cars are pony cars. Pony cars are a subgroup of muscle cars.

>All these Mustangs

Not muscle.

...

I deliver for pizza hut and get paid mileage, my f-body camaro has a wheelbase of 107 inches which by pizza hut standards, they actually pay a subcompact car wage rate for its size, they define 110-?? As compact.

Pizza Hut sounds retarded, ffs NASCAR uses a 110 inch wheelbase. 110 inches was a compact in the USA back in like the 60s-70s.

No one cares fag

>calls someone a fag
>likes Mustangs
>probably male

lol
