So Veeky Forums, as things are now, I should hopefully be driving a Ford Falcon BA XR6 Turbo by the end of the week. Does anyone know ANYTHING about them? What kind of performance things are good, any decent body mods? Issues? Etc?

Barra is a godly engine.Keep it stock.

Yeah. I need it as a family car, so I was thinking to leave it mostly stock. Thinking maybe a tune, not much else I think I'll need to do.

I'd like to see what kinda options I have as far as visual mods go though. The performance is nice, but it's still a bit plain looking.

They eat turbos, pretty thirsty, go hard, idle like an asthmatic.

What do you mean eat turbos? lol

They've got a trickle feed for the ball bearing system in the turbo, trouble is this doesn't provide enough cooling for the oil itself causing it to carbon up with the end result being a new turbo, oil feed line and line filter. We change them hand over fist at work.

I daily an FPV F6 310, turbo Falcons are great value and extremely practical if you've got a family. You can get a lot more power out of a stock XR6T with just headers and a good tune from what I've heard, though mine is stock so I don't really have any experience with modifying them. Ford limited them a bit from the factory because they didn't want the I6 to look better than the V8. Reliability is fairly good but the older automatics have problems sometimes (mostly the 4 speeds from what I've heard). People always talk about how bad the fuel economy is yet they're fairly good IMO considering how much power you're getting. If you drive them gently they're not really any worse on fuel than an NA Falcon.

Plain looking is GOOD. Cops won't hassle you, and your car won't get vandalised by jealous people.

What's the best way of going about keeping that from being a problem?

That's a good point.

Thanks for the input.

not really they are pretty reliable.

Being a older BA you might need to do valve springs as the k's get up there

What's considered "up there" for them? I used to have a N/A Falcon with like 440,000 Kms, but it was a piece of shit. The one I'm eyeing has like 180k.

Ye, the transmission is most likely gonna fuck out real soon, 2 mechanics i work with both had tranny issues at

That's not encouraging.

bout the same

100-200 is considered "low"
300 is avg anything above that is high

auto or manual?

manual probably just needs clutch and syncros

autos are shit unless its the 6sp or a built 4sp but the stock btr4 just cant handle it and the cooling system is ass

Auto and the 1 guy tows with his XR6 so that didnt help at all but besides that theyre pretty mint

OP get a mechanic to check out the gearbox fluid and level make sure its good people tend to neglect those btr4's because no dipstick and the cooling solution is balls

Its the 4 speed auto.

Yeah. I'll have my mechanic check it out when I get it.

Good oil, regular changes - way under manu spec. Not a lot else except maybe lag the oil pipe up where it passes the exhaust manifold.

>FPV F6 310
Is it worth getting an FPV or should I just get a normal XR6 Turbo and spend a couple grand modding it?

cant put too much through those 4sp without getting them rebuilt

i'd really look at the 6sp auto or manual if i was u senpai

Have fun replacing rear diff bushes every other week.
Plus power steering pump is notorious for leaking onto the alternator and catching fire so keep an eye on it.

What's the process of changing to the 6sp auto? Bolt right up, or a lot of work?

Tailshaft, box, ECU, PCM, harness and probably some other shit I've forgotten.

Heaps of info on the xr6 turbo forums but it seems easier to just buy one with the 6 speed already in it than swap one in.

this jsut buy a 6sp auto or manual

My mechanic specialises in transmissions and allows payment plans. Might just have him rebuild the 4sp if it needs it.

Tbh, if I had the money for that, I'd probably have gotten something else. lol

4 speed will be fine if you intend on keeping the power reasonably close to stock.

Do battery relocation for maximum dose.

>payment plans
dont
o
n
t

just keep getting junkyard btr4's

they are in fucking everything
true best of luck senpai

Bump?
