My brother had an 04 with the 2.0. Shit car,always something needing repaired or replaced . Especially when it got closer to 100k miles. Traded it in for a scion xD. The vw interior and driving manners were great. Just shit reliability

Have a 1.4 Golf as my first car for a year and havent had any problems. Car always stayed outside and havent had to replace the battery.
Ride is pretty comfy but its slow as a turtle.
