That's the issue with animation as a whole. Unless you go out of your way to make them look young/old, characters tend to fall in the "looks anywhere between 16-21" range. It happens with real life young adults as well. A lot of my friends don't look a day older than 18 (one of the girls could be passed off as 15 easy) but they're all in their early/mid 20s.
