tldr Which of these cars will retain their value better in 5 years?
So I'm looking for a new car, right? And I was pretty set on the RS. I can get a 2017 with the RS2 package for $33k, older model so they're trying to get rid of it. Now, I was talking to a couple of guys who used to sell cars, one was a Ford dealer until this year, and he says the RS is a bad buy because it won't be worth much in a few years. He says even though reviewers are raving about it, the real world doesn't want it, no one can sell them, just no demand. The Mustang however always has huge demand, everyone wants one, so not only will it hold its value better, you'll be able to get a great deal on a trade in since the dealer knows he'll be able to sell it, where the RS would just sit around for years, even if you sell it privately, you gotta wait for that one guy who knows what it is and wants it. Makes sense, I guess? But I was looking at KBB values for the STI, Evo, and GT, 2011-2013s, and the rally twins have better values whereas even pristine GTs only go for about 70% of their MSRP. At this point I want to point out that I baby my cars and I mean BABY them, maybe 2k miles a year if that. In 5 years, whatever I sell will be the best used example in a 500 mile radius at the time. And with something like the RS, the first thing half the owners do is mods the balls out of it, whereas mine will be completely stock, well, might put a BOV on it just for fun, so I think that'll really help too. Only other factor to consider is that I can get a stupid deal on the Mustang, a 2018 base for about $26k

Do you want to enjoy the car, or to have money in 5 years?
Cars devalue. It's a fact of life.

RS. if not driven. Because there won't be a lot of RSes. There won't be a lot of RSes because if they're driven, their headgaskets shit themselves.

If you are going to buy a depreciating asset only to sell it once your loan is paid off why not just lease and not have to worry about future value?
That said I drove an RS and a GT PP back to back and I don't understand how anyone would buy the modified Focus with a terrible AWD system. Went with the Stang no regrets 2 years later

Is it melting?

I want to have money in 5 years which is why I made a thread asking which will be worth more money in 5 years.

>I want to have money in 5 years Then buy used.

>If you are going to buy a depreciating asset only to sell it once your loan is paid off why not just lease and not have to worry about future value? Because you can't lease an RS or a GT? Unless you go through an outside leaser but you're paying almost the whole case payment anyway so it's a huge waste. >That said I drove an RS and a GT PP back to back and I don't understand how anyone would buy the modified Focus with a terrible AWD system. Went with the Stang no regrets 2 years later Hatchback practicality + faster off the line. That 0-30 time is intense. And Mustangs are so boring, you see them every where, everyday.
Dominic James
A waste. A used one today has more miles on it than what I'd put on it in 5 years. Complete waste of money to buy used.
Anthony Perez
You're retarded. A car loses most of its value in the first 5 years. >Buy new for $30k >sell 5 years later for $15k >lose $15k
>buy 5 year old used for $15k >sell 5 years later for $10k >lose $5k
Camden Murphy
Youre an idiot, no matter how little you drive the car you will end up losing money holding it for 5 years and selling. The only way not to lose is to drive your car for several years after it's paid off.
Thomas Parker
Buy a Lancia fulvia while they're still reasonable
Easton Johnson
You're trash if you get a new mustang but not a GT. also don't be that guy trying to sell a 2011 gt with 20k miles for 20k

Lololoool
In 2016 I bought a 07 Pontiac grand prix gxp with 123k miles for 4.1k. It was kbb(kbb can be unreliable.) For 5k.
It's now worth 5.2k on kbb, but with 129k miles

I should've known asking Veeky Forums wouldn't be any help. Learn how cars work.
Ethan Ward
>A used one today has more miles on it than what I'd put on it in 5 years used cars have different mileages, what in the fuck are you talking about?
Carson Scott
Literally experts on every car they've never driven
Jose Bennett
Who the fuck would want to buy an old Pontiac with over 120k miles?
Justin Cooper
Okay there chief you go and buy that brand new car. I'll buy it off of you in 5 years for 30% of what you paid.

Oh yeah I'm sure you'll get double the MSRP for your shitbox in 5 years time cause you treated it so well. People will flock to buy your car simply because you, the greatest person on the planet have owned it.
You'll lose money on it nigger, accept it.
Ian Roberts
Fuck holding value, drive the car you want, have fun and enjoy your life while you can.
Easton Williams
If you want to have more money in 5 years, keep the shitbox you have now and keep saving.
Jack Edwards
focus definitely, that stanger will be forgotten and blended in with all the other stangers that come out near the same time, just another gen of stang to add to the pile.
although i dont like the new RS much it will definitely hold value better, focus rs series only has 3 cars in it each with significant changes so far unlike the sea of mustangs and focus rss of the past have all held their values well.
i doubt this gen of RS will become a collector one day, atleast not any time soon, probably not woth buying it to be an investment but eventually it will go back up in price and you might be able to sell it for most of what you bought it for one day
Robert Morgan
>I want to have money in 5 years So don't buy a new car, dipshit.
Andrew Bailey
Even though you are going to lose money either way, if you still insist on having the most money possible in 5 years while still buying one of these cars, the difference in how much either one is worth in 5 years will be negligible to the point where you might as well just buy whichever one you want.
Sebastian Cruz
Go look up how much a stock 2007 STI goes for with low miles bro. I literally know what I got. With the Evo being dead and Subaru not offering a hatchback anymore, this'll be worth at least 85% in 5 years
Ryan James
Yeah fuck it why but anything, why have fun ever. Eat ramen every day. Drive a 15 year old civic. Live in a box on the sidewalk.
Carter Morales
My only concern would be that they'll do a new RS on the new Focus that's better, which would kill all the hype for this one.
Sebastian Robinson
If you're so clever, why did you make this thread?
