Ok, I'm not a big car guy so I thought I'd venture out of /b/ and ask you all here at Veeky Forums for some advice.
I'm currently looking at some nice used Jaguars, but I'm not sure what I should look out for. I'm also curious which of these three vehicles you'd choose.
* There are two versions I'm looking at, a V6 and the V8. The V6 is a couple grand cheaper.
Here's my reasons for each vehicle:
XJL - Love boats, I like taking long(er) trips and the XJL is very comfortable.
XKR - Awesome design that's reminds me a lot of more classical Jaguars of the past but planted in the future. V8 sounds great.
F-Type - Here's where I'm REALLY uncertain of. I'm not looking for a super sporty vehicle, but I love the design. Both engines sounds nice, although the V8 sounds best. Beyond that, I really have no clue.
These will be mine until they devalue so much that they're worth a Double Whopper with Cheese, so resale isn't on the radar unless it's to a junk yard.
Would appreciate some honest opinions, or if you guys think none of these are worth any time. If so, why?

Get back to your containment board you wrenched creature.

i have no experience with jaguar, but i think the XKR looks best I also love the F type design.
But why do you want jaguar specifically op? is there a reason you're limiting yourself to this brand?
Carter Jenkins
Personally i would get the ftype. Sexiest looking and sounding car in probably ever.
Xj/xjl would be second choice because comfy sedan and you can get the thicc v8 in there for maximum braps. Xkr is dope too but might as well get the ftype New jags are pretty solid from what i’ve heard, only infotainment issues on the older, slower headunits
Luke Cooper
Personally i'd pick the F-type from those three. That said you aren't looking for a sporty car. Have you looked at the super charged V6 XE/XF? I can vouch for the XE being a comfy comfy car as I love mine. Only thing to note with the F-type. Personally i'd make sure it has the blind spot assist because you can't see shit if you look over your shoulder. Picture taken from an F-type when I was at the dealership.

Jaguar seem to have the same problem that audi and Mercedes have, past a certain point, the start falling apart. They are expensive to fix. If you can't afford a new one, you may have trouble paying to fix an old one.
Adrian Morris
The newer Jags are a definite improvement but that's only in the last few years really. So these 2012+ models shouldn't be as bad. But anyone buying a Jag know of their past in terms of reliability.
Jace Richardson
This user. They are nice looking cars that are a bargain for the price they command used. But since you are looking for one that is that old and with that mileage you will have trouble keeping it on the road. You can get an after market warranty but factor that into how much more you will spend in total for the car. Also get acquainted with your mechanic, you will be seeing him a lot. In all honesty try lexus they are bland semi boring but not as expensive to fix and less prone to breaking down overall.

Tbh, if I were to buy a luxury sedan, it would be a Lexus.

Reeee! The light of Veeky Forums burns!
The XKR does look sexy! I've looked at all sorts of cars, ranging from BMW's to more exotic (and expensive / niche) to more reasonable sedans from Genesis.
Jaguar just checked all of the boxes for me I suppose. I am however, always open to suggestions!
I know, the F-Type looks sexy in an underrated sort of way. The XJL is a great beast in terms of luxury and vroom.
I've read up a little on the XKR, and that's why I'm looking at the years I am.
Hey, thanks for the input. I have indeed looked at the XE / XF, but they didn't talk to me. (Though the XF Portfolio is very tempting.)
They've gotten better since around 2005-2008ish. But all cars fall apart at some point. Unlike a Ford F-100 from the 70's, I doubt these would last as long even if babied and I'm OK with that.
I could afford to get a new one, and I've thought about it. I usually lease my vehicles because I don't want to worry about the maintenance. But since I'm going to be driving a lot more this year, the mile limits on leased vehicles are extremely restrictive.
Bumper. To. Bumper. Warranty. (DeMuro joke)
I've done my research on these vehicles (at least looked at owner reviews). I wouldn't have chosen these vehicles if I didn't believe they'd be relatively reliable. If we're talking about a pre 2000's Jag, I'd definitely agree with you.
I appreciate all the comments!

I lied there, I could probably purchase a base XJ new but I'd be stretching myself really thin.

Sounds like you have your heart set on a Jag. Can't blame you, as everyone loves a villainous car.
From your choices, if you want sporty get the F-type. As much as I love the XKR i'd have an F-type in a trice over it. I mean, look at it and that sound. It's a non contest.
For your family luxury vroom mobile i'd either go with your XJ or you could get an XF portfolio with far less miles on it in comparison which may expand the life of your car. I'd not go for the XE here as it's 1 foot shorter. So people in the back don't have as much room.
Jacob Rivera
Oh man, but the XKR is just classically beautiful. But truth be told, I've been falling for the F-Type the more I've been looking at it. I've found one with about 50K miles for a little more, full service history and everything up to date. It's a V8 model.
I'm sitting here debating with myself if I should pull the trigger on it or not.
Thanks everyone for the input and your valuable advice. I have to go, but I'm sure I'll be back.
Asher Sanchez
God speed user in your purchase.

Do NOT purchase a used vehicle made by a British manufacturer. Buy japanese, Ford, certain GM models, and certain German cars (if you live in Europe, or a metropolitan area with plenty of experienced non-dealer, specialist mechanics). Britain has exclusively produced Chrysler-tier dumpster fires since 2000, when they discontinued the original Mini.
Nathaniel Phillips
Also, they frequently install their steering wheels on the wrong side.
Ryan Young
Yeah. And they don't even run on gasoline. They run on petrol. You can't even buy the stuff in America.
Matthew Ortiz
are you my mum?
she has an obsession with xkrs

Get the XJS V12

Is the v6 XE and poo-in-loo Jag in general good to go? They seem nice on paper but I don't trust the Indians in design, reliability, or quality.
Henry Adams
I have the XE S V6 tuned to 400hp and never head any real problems since 30000km.
Jace Brown
Indians have next to no design input in JLR. They provide the money, JLR's engineering and design is entirely British
