Are these Tahoes any good?

Looking for a 2nd vehicle and these are fairly cheap on CL. Most seem to be in decent shape for around 3-4k.

Other than the interior, yep. Totally unkillable smallblock engine, ok transmission, and doesnt look gaudy as fuck like newer SUV's. The interior is the worst quality plastic ever though and if it's not broken it will break. Also be careful with the door handles, they are powdered steel and will break.

Why would you want this for a second vehicle?

I owned the 2 door version of this for a few years. Was great when gas was cheap. But once gas started averaging over three bucks a gallon, it was eating up over $80 in gasoline a week. Couldn’t sustain that, so I sold it. It sold damn quick though, a couple of days on the street with the for sale sign and I had several offers. Ultimately sold it to a black dude who was a cop and wanted something big but not too big to carry all his gear

I have the pickup-body gmt400 and I must agree it is absolutely terrible on gasoline. You can expect about 15mpg if it's all stock. With a 3.73:1 rear end you can expect about 11.

Cheap plastic interior doesnt bother me. If i kept it for a long time id probably end up gutting it and rhino lining the interior.

Current work commute is 22 miles round trip, and my current truck gets around 17-18 combined. I am no stranger to terrible MPGs so im ok with it.

Vortecs from that era run forever. Only issues you'll have is with the auto transmission.

Quite a few Silverado/1500 owners i know have had their trans go out, hopefully they dont go out too fast and i can drive it for a while after buying it.

It is not, it will soon be supercharged tho.

So sell it and buy a 4x4 one. Then supercharge that one
