what
I6 every time
Depends on application
I can rebuild RB's in my sleep so that.
I6 of course.
Only BMW and Cummins ever use it. And Volvo but they dropped it 3 years ago. It is much rarer and cooler than a V8, also being inherently balanced, it is smoother than a V8 and can sound just as good.
I5
based anons
>I5
i6 every day of the week
Mercedes is switching to I6 for the first time in 22 years. They ackowledged the superiority of aesthetics and smoothness over fuel economy and convenience
I chose a hypothetical I7 to compromise.
>Sub 3.5 Liters
inline 6
>Over 3.5 Liters
Vee Aight
Is an I7 inherently balanced?
Would it be feasible to fit inline 6s to smol cars?
>Take pushrod inline 4 with undersquare bore stroke ratio
>Add 2 cylinders
>Now have tiny inline 6 as long and tall as an OHC inline 4
They'd be no real benefit other than smoothness but it seems neat.
>not wanting a hilariously torquey 8L inline 6
No, but fuck balance.
Audi Urquattro.
what's the point of a i5 when a i6 exists?
does the extra cylinder really add so much length?
>wanting a 1500 rpm redline
The one with the lowest weight per cylinder and best packaging, so V8.
both in different cars
It idles sub 500 rpm dumb ass.
cummins is nice
bmw is a pile of shit
why are all european trucks i6 if v8 is superior?
does the cummins produce 112+hp/l naturally aspirated?
thought so.
>It is much rarer
Because it's worse.
>They ackowledged the fact that they could make a better economy engine by scaling up their I4
FTFY. If you think a modern engine is aesthetic, think again.
Superbike V8's > all I6's
Yes, you could fit a BMW K1600 into a 2002.
>wanting a tractor motor
I5's fit transversely.
I6's can fit that way, but they're a huge PITA.
>worse
sorry mister 2.3 seconds of microrevrange but i disagree with you.
> superbike
opinion discarded
i6 can be upscaled to whatever displacement is desired because it has perfect balance.
It doesn't self destruct on the way back from the dealership after you buy it either.
Because we're cucked.
it's like europe doesn't produce straight six diesels
Oh wait
youtube.com
autoweek.nl
this car has 8 vteks
you can fit it tranverseley, and they more power and smoother power delivery than an i4.
Ultra high revving i6
>BUT MUH LOW TORKS
Learn to set up a gearbox fag
What would happen if you swapped this into a miata somehow?
I love both equally. I love how I6s work, natural balance, how well they take to turbocharging. But I love a nice DOHC V8 too. The sound, the fact that they (usually) sit further back in the engine bay, and that they are more commonly made of lighter materials. A 650lb I6 hanging halfway over the front wheels bugs me sometimes.
It would be either too heavy or the miata would become a truck with a Miata body grafted to it.
Someone should swap an industrial motor in a car. That would be hilarious
Glorious fucking sound innit.
youtube.com
It's the most aggresive sound I've ever heard, it wants you dead.
what do you fellas think of the rb25?
Did Scania stop making V8?
excellent engine. If you can do basic bolt ons e.g : turbo, exhaust, injectors, fmic you will make an easy 400hp. im thinking of swapping one into my r32 when the rb20 blows
>bbut muh 7L v8 will make that with no bolt ons
yeah an rb25 is like 20 years old and we're talking about wheel horsepower fag
Is there a difference between ‘straight’6 and ‘flat’6 or are they interchangeable?
Nah they still make it, and it’s still the worlds coolest truck
Some dude in Auckland has the scania v8 poster on the back of his trailer where an ad would usually be just to remind other commuters he has a v8
flat six is a 90 degree v6
the scania v8’s get poor fuel economy in comparison to volvos or benzs though
No. Flat 6 is a 180 degrees V6
bruh really? well yes they are completley different i have drawn u a blueprint
Who cares. When you are bouncing off your 90kmh speed limiter in the outside lane racing a truck bouncing off his 89.9kmh speed limiter clearly the company’s fuel bill is way down your list of concerns
Ohh okay I see. Thanks!
Iron block boat anchor with the packaging issues of a V12.
oops
your wage depends on the fuel economy though
if you drive uneconomically you get less paid
No but I assume they sound godly
>he cant afford to own a gtr and a v8 boomer mobile
Sucks to be you ;)
>he still has the rb20 in his gtst
poor goiym, rb25 is soooooooo much better.
>will this single cylinder field engine fit in my miata?
Str8 8
One way to find out...
Mid engine i6
Cockpit over axle
F1 tries that, V6/V8 work better even in that configuration.
>tfw no 36.7l H24
At least I don't have to rebuild my s54 every 25h.
Mercedes is going back to i6
Only because it's easier to share parts between the I4 and I6. It's an economy of scale decision.
I bet even that thing has auto stop-start to ‘save fuel‘
But it’s still a great decision since an I6 is a million times better than a shitbox V6
My boy
Inline 8
ill take bait
flat is H horizontal pattern see torche 911 engine
inline is cyls on top all in one line see r33 r34 e46 etc
nippon stronk blended with kraut meme magic: the image
how will walmartshitters and pastaniggers even recover
Flatplane V8
You seem to have misspelled crossplane
>Not wanting the glorious 4.2l AMC I6
>tfw no S2
I want muh Group B powered midsize wagon damnit
With 180° offset crank pins.
>fl*tplane
if you want high revs and no torque you shouldn't get a V8 in the first place
Sorry I don't like shitty sounding boring V8s.
Depends on the car though. Some classic cars have engines so small, underpowered or weird you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. They make Briggs and Stratton engines with more power than an original 1100cc VW beetle and they'd probably sound similar enough for most laymen not to notice
There are some straight sixes that are on their side though. But only in buses, trains, etc.
I love I6's, but no they don't sound good unless its high revving, everything else you say is true.
>Superbike V8
then why do you like flatplanes?
I6
We settled this once already.
...
>Superbikes with pistons
What is this, 1898? Get with the times old man.
>a 4l engine that can't make more than 200hp
american engineering
Because I don't like shitty sounding boring V8s.
nice comeback retard
90% of flatplanes sound like a cheap .midi file as an engine note with no waver or complex tone. At least crossplanes have a warble, and a crossplane with 180° headers sound infinitely better than the typical exotic flatplane with forced combustion in the exhaust to simulate the sound of an old car shifting
Cool, you like shitty sounding boring V8s. I don't.
Except a V6 makes more power, weighs less, sounds better and has better packaging.
V8's made out of two superbike engines, like the Synergy or Hartley.
Oh cool another retard who doesn’t know anything about cars
Nice bait
>more power
2jzpower.com
>weighs less
VR38DETT: 276kg
2JZGTE:~240kh
>sounds better
"no"
>packaging
Ill give you that, the reason the I6 was phased out was the difficulty mounting the tranny underneath for FWD
>don’t care much about hp
>like the simplicity and throttle response of NA engines
Why not both?
But as a burger the NA V8 is more readily available on both the used and new market
>1741hp
>Capable of being measured on a dyno
That's cute.
hotrod.com
>The S65 weighs 202 kg (445 lb), which is 15 kg (33 lb) less than its S54 straight-6 engine predecessor.
V6 engines are obviously lighter than V8 ones, you're just posting shitty Nisshit engineering.
You have clearly never heard a Busso.
People have made 2500+hp on VR38s lol
Whoops
Here's the pecking order, although certain engines are outliers like the S14 from the E30 or B18 or the Duesenberg I8s
Crossplane 180° V8 > Crossplane V8 >= V10 >= V12 >= I5 >= I6 = I8 > Flatplane V8 > I4 >= V6
