why is exhaust wrapping so damn hard to do right? also why do my hands sting?

It’s tedious and glass fiber
Fibreglass fibres, fucking suck.
>bitching about fiberglass
Op is still a fag
Don't wrap your exhaust. Ceramic coating is the only thing that makes any kind of sense.
Does wrapping reduce header lifespan?
Fuck yes, protects everything else around the headers but.
Yes, dramatically. The header retains more heat and as a result any contact with air causes oxidation to happen faster. After a certain threshold the header basically dissolves away where ever it was exposed to air.
If you want to reduce temperatures get them ceramic coated. A ceramic coat insulates the headers from the exhaust which reduces temperatures without loss of longevity.
most annoying feeling ever
Yes and no.
A set of high quality headers built with high quality steel will not see a reduction in life span.
A set of low quality headers will show fatigue and probably crack at the welds due to the higher heat.
OEM cast manifold will rust away and crack under wrapping as well.
I only recommend wrapping the headers on a cheap track toy. It will give you a little extra power and keep under hood temperatures down. If you can afford high quality headers then you can afford paying to get them ceramic coated. But desu there are way better ways to spend your money and ceramic coating is really only worth it when you're trying to squeeze that last little bit of power out of the engine.
My recommendation? Buy an air compressor and a die grinder. Port your headers and head to be the same size as the gasket. Honestly this is going to improve flow and power more than wrapping.
>Ceramic coating
The best available ceramic coating does not even approach wrap in terms of insulation.
This is a surprisingly good post for Veeky Forums
I'm slowly trying to fill Veeky Forums with informative posts now that I'm older and much more experienced. I actually gained a lot of knowledge from Veeky Forums back in the day because it's pretty easy to figure out who actually knows what the fuck they're talking about and who is just shitposting. Just trying to do my part br/o/.
Thanks for all the info man, quality post
Good on you, seriously this board might be worth a shit if we had more posters like you actually contributing knowledge to the topic at hand
>not getting the wrap soaking wet before wrapping
It's pretty fucking good user, we fuck with it at work a bit ceramic coating turbine housings for underground and marine applications as well as for dudes who like to spend too much money on their cars. I can hold a dump pipe which is coated in and out, without the ceramic my hand would would stick to it in a fraction of a second, we've clocked 1100c on the outside of a dump with an infrared pyrometer, hard to clock the ceramic externally as it's reflective.
Would it be worthwhile to ceramic coat a header and then wrap it?
Would you want to ceramic coat / wrap a turbo manifold? Or would you want the opposite and put cooling find on it to reduce the heat the turbo sees?
Assume that there's nothing in the engine bay to fry and it's high quality thick headers.
Reducing the heat the turbine sees reduces its drive energy, they run on heat expansion.
The ceramic coat contains the heat well wrapping it would be a waste of time and would likely encourage corrosion over time especially in the north east where the roads are salted. Just get a set of ceramic coat headers and enjoy the clean engine bay
if pic related bothers you then yes
That’s brutal

Please explain then user how you think they work?
