Been wrapped up in Xcom 2 expansion and the new Gwent patch. Mostly Xcom though, only played 3 games for my daily on Gwent and then fucked off to go shoot more aliens. Unfortunately that also means I didn't play nearly enough to get a good handle on if the new patch is any good or not. It's certainly different at least. I threw together a mulligan squirrel deck and a meme Temeria deck (Because that's what matters) and won every game with them.
The vrihedd officers or brigade or whatever (The dudes that used to get buffed every time you mulliganned something) are really fucking iffy and I'll probably cut them next time I refine the deck. If they buffed all elves in your hand and deck they'd be good. Since they only buff elves that are in play they sort of suck. The other elf mulligan cavalry dudes however are really fucking strong, the ones that let you mulligan a card and then boost based on the power of the card you draw. Shit is nuts. The new Francesca is really powerful too since she can tutor any card she wants out of the deck and boosts it if it's a unit. New Eleyas is probably playable, especially with the new Francesca, but he's nothing super amazing and is kind of a smaller silver Ciri: Dash. Still not entirely sure how I feel about the new Saskia. Probably good. I may cut the blue mountain commandos I put in the deck for additional thinning and elf synergy but I'm not sure.

I just fought Letho in TW2. Aard was more useful than I remembered. Fun fight, wish it was longer. Geralt vs. Olgierd is still better as it is.
For the first time ever I encountered a weird glitch. Roche spawned there before I even talked to Letho. He rushed out and started hacking at Iorveth while I escorted him to the ruins. He couldn't do any damage but it was very amusing.

Ok to keep the thread alive, what are choices you have never and will ever take in a Witcher game? So I gave him back his sword, like I always have.

Be more specific. What would you actually change?
>tfw no brief sequences controlling Radovid and Emhyr like in TW2
Nolan Ortiz
in an ideal scenario, I'd like a big battle between the North and Nilfgaard and Geralt owuld be caught in the middle of it all and his actions during the battle could tip the scales in each favor. You can meet Rad and Emhyr and they both have something to demand and something to offer in return for your help(something that could affect the battle with the hunt or the personal fate or certain characters), Dijkstra would work in the background trying to sabotage both and seize power for himself. After it's over, depending who won, you'd see them take over Novigrad and the consequences of the victory and how it affects the world and people could be different for each side
Cooper Morgan
This seems interesting. I look forward to seeing the whole NoClip series.
How would that happen though? TW2 required pretty specific circumstances for Geralt to matter at Vergen.
David Garcia
I don't know. Let's say Radovid would enter Novigrad first and take it over like he does anyway and then Emhyr would start a siege of the city. Geralt would be caught in the city at the time. So maybe Radovid would have a task for him to sneak out and sabotage Nilfs in some way, or Dijkstra would offer something similar to sabotage both. Then you''d meet Emhyr and he's have his own offer. Maybe each of them holds a different resource that can be used agaisnt the Hunt. Maybe Radovid would offers to release captured Lodge members, or Emhyr wold offer his troops or Dijkstra something unique too(this needs to be thought of better, I can't come up with it on top of my head). Depending on which resource you secure, it would affect the battle with the Hunt and maybe which character dies or how the final battle goes, even the ending...
Ryan Cruz
>Let's say Radovid would enter Novigrad first and take it over like he does anyway a They never did explain this or even have any characters remark on it.
Cameron Roberts
Which is a shame. In the beginning it's said that Novigrad has the power to tip the scales of war and that both Rad and Emhyr want it. But Novigrad is a free city supposedly and doesn't want to take sides. Then suddenly Radovid is there somehow with no explanation. It just shows that they didn't care much aobut exploring that storyline, which is strange considering that the war gets a pretty good introduction in the beginning.
Cameron Cruz
It's like the first third of the game was made by entirely different people. Velen feels like an act in TW2 and is as good as anything in any game. Nothing later comes close to that level of pathos or nuanced story telling.
Christian Harris
I enjoyed parts of the Novigrad storyline too although it had some weak parts that dragged on, but still, I think it's pretty great overall. Skellige's main story is strangely short, the KM section was also good, but then it kind of feels rushed until the end and a lot of things get sidelined and barely explained, the war being one of them
Eli Reyes
Massive cuts and rewrites caused by throwing money at populating the open world and basic redesigns of fundamental gameplay and plot progression. There's still signs of the largely level-less world and nonlinear campaign they originally planned in the game, like being able to just head to Skellige immediately and get one-shot by everything. Remember the first long gameplay trailer where Dijkstra sends Geralt to check out Velen? Used to be the story could progress from any hub to any hub. That's a lot of work and the money and time don't come back just because you scrapped it before you were finished.
Their choices are still weird to me though. Cut Iorveth and the Wild Hunt segments so you can prioritize monster hunts in lower Velen. Seriously?
Charles Thompson
I don't think the filler content necessarily replaced the main story stuff. I read in some interview that the question marks were added in between the last delay and the final release because the world seemed empty. By that time the main story was pretty much done I'd think. Although I remember that gameplay trailer with Dijkstra, which indicates different story progression was there late in the development. I don't know what to think other that they maybe bite more than they can chew and had to make cuts in order to stay within reasonable release date and not cause uproar by delaying the game more. there was also that downgrade stuff and maybe they wanted to avoid more bad publicity.
Realistically looking, all these complaints are done by the small hardcore fanbase, majority of people didn't even notice them or cared and the game got universal praise so business wise CDPR made a great decision.
Lucas Bell
>I don't think the filler content necessarily replaced the main story stuff. Sure it did. Any money and time used on that could have been used on main story instead. It's either that or CDPR suck at writing. But we know they can write. They've done it before.
>Realistically looking, all these complaints are done by the small hardcore fanbase, majority of people didn't even notice them or cared and the game got universal praise so business wise CDPR made a great decision. This is a common mistake. The hardcore fanbase is always the only one that cares. The other people buy what they're told. They'd not have noticed if they catered to the core fans any more than they noticed them abandoning the core fans. In the short term it works out the same but the hardcore fans are the ones that still talk about the games years later and are the main generators of word of mouth. You can abandon your original fanbase and do well after you're established...for awhile. But the inertia doesn't last forever. Just ask Bioware.
Lucas Baker
>Sure it did. Any money and time used on that could have been used on main story instead. I don't think it's that simple. There is a big difference in adding some random points of interest with generic content and doing major changes to the main story. The later requires far more man power, resources and time. Writers, animators, voice actors, quest designers and so on...The question marks could be added for cheap and by smaller number of people that wouldn't necesserally be needed for the main story anyway.
I'm just saying that the cuts that happened in the main story aren't related to the addition of question marks but rather the lack of time imo.
> The hardcore fanbase is always the only one that cares That is true, but the hardcore fanbase often nitpicks too much and has unrealistic requests. And even among the hardcore fanbase there are conflicts about what they want to see more of. It would be impossible to please all.
Luis Turner
>I don't think it's that simple. There is a big difference in adding some random points of interest with generic content and doing major changes to the main story. The POIs were only one of their latest panic mode attempts to fill in the open world. There were way more shitty side quests and monster hunts than that, all because of the size of the world. Combine that with having at least a couple of major rewrites where main plot had to be changed or removed, and it's easy to see why the thing is in tatters.
>I'm just saying that the cuts that happened in the main story aren't related to the addition of question marks but rather the lack of time imo. Those issues are all related. They didn't have enough time because they were obsessed with being bigger than Skyrim. They lost all focus.
>That is true, but the hardcore fanbase often nitpicks too much and has unrealistic requests. And even among the hardcore fanbase there are conflicts about what they want to see more of. It would be impossible to please all. True, but they've displeased most. After TW2 do you really think the plot having some basic coherence is an unrealistic expectation? Did you seriously expect that, say, Iorveth would never even be mentioned in TW3?
Parker Ramirez
You're just fairly satisfied because one of the only things they added to the base game post release was more Triss.
Robert Wood
>The POIs were only one of their latest panic mode attempts to fill in the open world. But they were cheap and easy to add. Whatever cuts the main story suffered were pretty much done at that point. Another factor I think was the power of the new consoles. When they started working on TW3 they had no idea what kind of power PS4 and Xbox will have. Them being under-powered forced some changes, like switching the main battle from Novigrad to Skellige, changing graphics and whatnot. That must have cost them, both the time and money and it definitely affected the story conclusion. You do make a good point about the world size and side content. Sacrificing some of it for the main story resource wise could have worked.
>True, but they've displeased most. I don't think this is true. The game is very well accepted and praised even among the hardcore fans despite most of them having a few complaints ranging from the Hunt portrayal, better politics, lack of TW2 consequences, more Yen/Ciri time, more Triss, Iorveth...
Those disappointments weren't enough to ruin the general experience for most, myself included. I had big expectations for TW2 consequences and that was one of my biggest disappointments. Trying to make the game standalone hurt the trilogy coherence. Sure, I hoped to see Iorveth, Saskia, Roche, Henselt...but I can't lie, I still enjoy the game without it.
After release, when the time for complaints was right and when there was still a chance for changes, most people didn't express their concerns loud enough. Sure, people complained about those issues but not enough of them did and not in the right way imo. The only thing they addressed was Triss due to the sheer power of persistent waifu autism we threw at them. If other issues were advocated for that passionately, maybe they would add an EE. But the reality is, not enough people care and for most the game is a masterpiece as is.
Bentley Ward
Well, that is true. I can't lie. That was the thing I personally advocated for strongly and vocally and of course I'm glad they listened. Still, that doesn't mean I didn't want other things to be added and that I didn't support them too. I really wish they did an EE.

Until then they'll experience success, but the signs will continue to build and they'll have an underwhelming release or two that while successful, perform less than they were supposed to. Word of mouth and opinion of hardcore fans will gradually turn against them.
Gwent is proceeding as I thought it would and will be a failure.

Nah. I truly believe what I'm saying. You can still find that thread. The OP has everything I talk about. I think we made an excellent case and I'm proud of our collective achievement as well as grateful to CDPR for listening. To me that meant a lot and made my experience with the game even more immersive. I must be grateful to CDPR for it. Not to mention that some of it spilled over at BaW and we got our waifushack. I'm a waifufag true and true and those tiny nods to the romance as well as the epilogue talk were something I welcomed with a smile. That doesn't mean I don't think BaW main story was kind of shit.
