Is a volvo c30 a good college car?

Is a volvo c30 a good college car?

3k civic

yes
C30 is sexy as fuck and chicks dig it.

What should I expect to pay for one and how reliable is it

Not as reliable as an EP3 Civic Si, it's the better college car and won't be anywhere near as expensive to fix

Fuck that's literally the car I have now, it's just not very good looking

Ayyyyyyyy EP3 bros.

...

Who cares? If you don't like the looks, change them
Abandoning one of the best civics made for a notably less reliable Volvo hatch his a bad idea, especially for a college student
Who cares about what girls think? If you have working wheels in college you're pretty much golden

It just seems so boring without the side skirts and rear wing but they are fucking expensive. I also want to lower it because you could damn near fit your head between the wheel and arch, but I can't justify spending a load of money on coilovers

Then get BC coilovers for under $1k

So be a cheap fuck and put some quality lowering springs on oem struts. They won't last as long as a properly valved set of struts but will ride far better than cheap coilovers

Upgrading the suspension is a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new to you car

So what kind of springs, I have like 300 max to work with here

Holy shit man. Clean up your goddamn headlights. Get those fucking red lugs off of there, and get some silver or machined wheels with a slightly wider offset to fill up your fenders. Buy an eBay wing/spoiler and paint it gloss black yourself. Get some bolt ons and a Hondata tune.
You don't need another car, you need to fix the one you have.

Eibach pro-line should be around that price and still work with stock shocks/struts

Red lugs are gone, headlights are on the list to fix, what about some small wheel spacers because I don't have money for new rims

Why would you want spacers? You have high offset wheels and it would look like shit

Wheel spacers will help a bit. Make sure you buy hubcentric spaces, and they will probably need to be 25mm (aka 1") or the stock lugs will stick too far out through the spacer.
Look on craigslist and see if they're aren't any used XXRs on there or something though. Also, take those wheels back to the stock color. If they're plastidipped black it only makes the car look trashier. The OEM look is better than the cheapest aftermarket look.

How do you have money for a Volvo c30 when you don't have money for cheap wheels?

I hate silver rims, I removed the plasti dip and was planning on powder coating

No. Get a civic for 3k.

Confirmed, I've had Eibach Pro-Kit on my Astra for over three years on stock struts. Lowers it around 1,5 inches / 30 millimeters but they have other springs you can get to lower it another quarter of an inch / 10 millimeters.
I understand you can lower your car 2 inches / 50 millimeters before you need to upgrade your struts and stuff

Hey OP, my best friend owns a C30 and I drive it a lot. I own the silver EP3 posted earlier. I will say that the only advantage you'll have in a C30 is one extra cylinder in the engine and one extra gear (6 speed)

Imo it's definitely not worth it. My buddy has had a bunch of problems with his under 100k miles. Don't get me wrong, I love volvo, but you've already got a very similar car and it's one of the most unique looking Civics, at that.

If you take off some of that aftermarket stuff it will look really clean. I just refinished my headlights and the car already looks 5 years newer.

TL;DR - Just keep the EP3 bc it's similar enough to the C30 and it will be more reliable / just as much fun.

Good, powder coating is a much better idea. If you're going to plastidip, at least use the glossifier as well. Makes it looks 10x less trashy.

No, you should not drive any luxury brand in college. Here is why:
1) Repair costs and part availability sucks compared to economy brands.

2) If you are in college and not from a rich family you will be in debt. The point is to be frugal to minimize that. I wanted to punch the douchebags with Blackberry's and BMWs who complained about tuition back in the day. I graduated with minimal debt by using an old Nokia and a bike.
3) You don't need a car to get laid in college.

If you do need a car, then an old Japanese economy car is all you need. My plan is to give my daughter's old Toyotas when they go to college. I only do this because my wife and I don't want them on a greyhound when they come home. Too many perverts.

I say Toyota because they are reliable, safe, and slow. You can't get into the kind of trouble I got into when you drive a Toyota. It will make them appreciate the first car they buy themselves.

muricans, what is a 'college car'?

and what does a college car do differently than any other cheap car?

Other than cheap they need good cargo space for hauling all your worldly possessions with you. Especially if you are in a program with work terms.

It's funny I used the gloss coat and it worked for about a month till it was back to a matte finish

Parents will help pay for a cheap used car if mine either dies or gets sold but they won't just hand me money for making a working car look better, so my options are either find a good cheap one or make mine look good for cheap

i drive a bmw and am graduating with no debt
you're just bad with money

I want my EP3 back so fucking bad.
WHY DID I SELL IT

Say thanks to your parents and/or socialist government then. My debt was gone by the time it would have started to accrue interest so I think I did pretty well financially.

>volvo
>chicks dig it

>chicks dig it

I thought they never sold that Civic in burgerland

This is a volvo thread isn't it? what models/years of volvo are actually good to buy

any if you have plenty of disposable income

No they did, it was just very unpopular

the only good volvos are the 200, 700, and 900 series. specifically the 240, 740, and 940.

So an s40 is comparable to an s80? and all the years are decent models? I just want to get into cars and like how mid to late 2000s volvs s40/80s look interior and exterior, but am wondering if they will run for say 300,000+ miles with no big engine or transmission issues. Plus are they like Mercedes where it's a huge pain in the ass to repair by yourself

Yes. End of story. Cops like to pick on civics but with luxury cars like the volvo or any cadillac or something, cops don't touch you for some reason, and it tends to have a nice effect on people

Also, being comfy on your commute is worth a lot, as well as volvo safety and reliability. It helps you keep a more relaxed and calm life

4/10 you fucking faggot

Theyre all expensive to maintain so you might as well get the most features. (S80). I bought a 2010 s80 v8 and I've spent like 3k on tires and fixing random things in the first 6 months. Most of these I won't have to pay again. It feels solid and well engineered. But it would be a pain to fix the alternator or rear exhaust manifold.

If you like the look of it and can get it for cheap, otherwise get a v50 or s40
