missed out on buying an omni for 250$
still sad 2 years later

Was it drivable?

Good to see you survived the snow Horizon-san :)

Yep. My window rolled down by itself during the night last week which was spooky. It luckily didn’t snow that day

The Lonesome George of cars.

seriously though, what happened to them? 900,000 were made...

Did they all really just fall apart or get scrapped?

Between rust and owners not willing to pay for repair work on econoboxes is enough to kill most of them. Those cars are getting on 30+ years old now.

Hey how'd your roof liner turn out?

Hard mode: No GLH's

I recently saw a Talbot Horizon for sale.
2 doors, one old man owner, low km, running and driving condition but a bit of rust and worn out seats.
Just €400.

Probably gone to scrap now.

:(

I saw a Horizon for sale on Minneapolis CL a while back but it was somebody's no-title project car.

Same reason you don't see many first or second gen Escorts around anymore. They just got used up.

GUYS DON'T BE HIS FRIEND I'M PRETTY SURE HE LIVES IN UTAH HE'LL KIDNAP YOU AND MAKE YOU MORMON

'93 Twingos are starting to get hard to find for the same reason.
They're one-way cars for most people, they just keep driving them until they need some big repair that exceeds the car's value and send it off to the junkyard, then replace it with another shitbox that will eventually suffer the same fate.

I wonder if there will ever be an 80s-90s shitbox version of Barrett Jackson where retired Gen Xers and Millennials fiercely bid over Geo Prizms and Plymouth Champs.

Don’t worry I’m only Jewish

It’s not a priority at the moment. As long as you don’t poke it it’s not a big deal

I unironically love these little penaltyboxes and wish they were still around.

Must have missed the thread about the headliner being fucked up, does anyone know if there are any good?

This photo brings back memories. I'm 42 now. I learned how to drive when my mom had this car. It was identical to this one, but was the ice blue color.

I know the carburetor on these cars were problematic. I remember being set to the store to pick up a gallon of milk and the car wouldn't start. I turned it over and over and someone saw me and told me to hold the gas pedal down then try starting it. It worked!

A few years later my dad took it into the shop for a tune up. On the drive home flames started shooting from the hood. There was an engine fire and we suspect some oil or gas that was spilled on the engine ignited causing the fire.

Insurance totaled it as everything under the hood was scorched and melted. Car still looked like new on the outside.

You rarely see these things on the road anymore.

How about a Plymouth Horizon?

Nah but I've got a Voyager

The same pedal trick works with mine too!

If you clean that up and take it to a Cars & Coffee meet I guarantee it'll have a crowd around it. Weird old shitboxes always stand out from the mustangs and miatas.

It is certainty different than something like an old Golf or civic or whatnot.

I’ll be sure and give it a good wash soon. It’s super shiny in person

The geezers will be all over you. It's a wonderful period piece.

two of my friends have said that their dad/mom had one back in the day. I'd imagine that lots of people have some experience with these cars, whether through a parent or a friend or uncle or whatever.
