Which is better for turbocharging, a blacktop or silvertop 4age?

Attached: 1503263219807.png (786x516, 541K)

silvertop has slightly lower compression. You can get decent boost out of a 4 valve though (and not ruin a silver top)

I want to have good NA performance until I'm able to afford the parts and do the fabrication for a turbo setup (lower comp forged pistons, stronger conrods, etc), and I read somewhere that the valve spacing in a silvertop might be better for turbocharging, despite the blacktop having better port design.

a 4agze swap with turbo.

No. 20 valve only.

Attached: 1515914243117.jpg (300x173, 14K)

Have you considered a 3S instead?

I have, but I don't want to have my car off the road any longer than necessary. It's much easier to simply swap a better 4AGE in.

Low compression trumps all

I just bought a 1989 Toyota MR2, and whenever I start the car the fuse for the dashboard lights burns out, and i cant figure out why, any tips on how to begin to tackle this issue?

Sounds like there's a short somewhere. I expect wiring within the engine or dash board.

1) Get a wiring diagram, highlight all circuits connected to that particular fuse
2) Get a multimeter, set it to ohms
3) Connect one probe to the chassis
4) Start tracing the wires with one probe on the chassis and the other to whatever components are in that circuit

Power is supposed to go from the fuse to the components, then to the chassis, which provides the ground/earth.

You should be seeing at least some resistance in the wiring up until the earth side of the last component in the diagram - if you see any 0 resistance readings before a component, then you've found a short.
Maybe a wire has rubbed through its insulation and is touching bare metal, or one of those components may have shorted internally, causing no resistance and drawing more current than the fuse can handle.

Just go one step at a time, mark down what you've checked on your diagrams, and eventually you'll find something that causes the fault.

If this doesn't work, or something is in a really shitty spot (e.g. buried under the dashboard), just start unplugging shit until the fuse stops blowing.

thank you so very much!!
Im completely new to cars and I'm trying to fix everything myself and I really appreciate the help, i was at a loss as to where to even start

No worries, happy to help a fellow mr2 owner.

You should post a picture of it for the thread collage, too.

not really because you can buy dished pistons but you cant buy a new port design

Will do once I get it home tomorrow! that being said its ugly af atm, but I cant complain too much it was only $1k. Heres a pic from before I painted up the patchy spots. Idiot I bought it from was trying to rust it on purpose.

Does anyone have experience with late 2000s 3 door Yaris? Are they worth it or should I just get a corolla?

They're ugly, slow, the dashboard is fugly and the gauge cluster strikes me as pants-on-head retarded.

Barely anything goes wrong with them, but again, slow.

Having issues with my 91 mr2 turbo. Car starts fine, idles good for about a minute and starts fluctuating lower and higher after that. Car misfires eventually, and starts misfiring and blowing black smoke when i step on the gas even a little bit. Im torn between the ignition coil or the fuel pressure regulator being the problem. Im about to swap my ignition coil for my friends today to see if that fixes it. Does anyone have any input or other potential fixes?

Added 20hp by installing this shift knob, what do we think?

i hate you so much

Thanks me too

Need your guys opinion, thought this was a good place to post. So basically, I got a first car. I fixed it up, it was a ricer that was turbocharged with a blowoff valve, red rims, decals, etc.. I took all that off, except the blowoff valve and the turbocharged shit, and I'm going to sell it for 3k. Got it for 300. It's a Subaru Legacy GTLimited 2006. I saw an offer for a Lexus is300 2001 in my area. Should I go with the Lexus at all? It'd be my first car, am genuinely curious...

Depends on the condition and price. I don't see why not besides the not so fuel efficient economy

O2 sensors or MAF sensor as one user said.

Sounds like as soon as it goes into closed loop mode, the fueling goes way off.

I just moved into a new appartment, so that's where the rolla is sitting for now. I thought I'd rent a garage nearby, but while the rent isn't that high, garages around here are way too expensive.

My plan in a couple of years is to buy a place I could turn into half workshop, half living space, so I'm not sure about spending >1000€ a year to rent a garage, in two years that could pay for a new post lift. At least I can keep an eye on it from the 4th floor.

I might start working on it again in the next weeks, temperatures are getting better, but it's gonna rain non-stop for the next two weeks.

The Peugeot next to it is also mine, that's my company car.

So, quick question for anyone with an aw11 with the cruise control.
Mine won't cruise above 75mph, if I set it to anything higher it just goes back down to 75. Does yalls do this? Is there a way to fix it?
It's not a big deal, just something on my mind.

Nice E100, post the interior.

I work in network infrastructure, as a draftsman.

I just noticed i haven't taken one lol
I'll take one tomorrow when I wash it

MR2 vs Fiero. Honest Thoughts?

Attached: 7043667-1984-pontiac-fiero-std-c.jpg (1280x960, 84K)

Not even a question. The Fiero may be "sexier", but I've owned both. The MR was a blast to drive, never broke down, and the engine was golden. The Fiero was slow, overheated after 30 feet and creaked like an grandma's bones. I was so glad when some asshat stole it. I damn near cried when I had to give up the MR.

compare the engines of both and then think about it

Does anyone know if a clutch kit for a 3sge gen 2 & 3 will fit on a gen 4 3sge redtop?

So somehow my mr2 has burned or just plain lost 4 quarts of oil over the 500 miles in two weeks ive owned it. I figured this out when i spun a bearing doing highway speeds. The fuck do i do now?

Hey guys, same MR2 from above with the shorted out fuse, I just figured out why my car is so damn loud and I assume that it's because this is what my exhaust looks like, and from what I'm seeing I'm missing A LOT of what was originally there. How fucked am i?

Attached: 20180312_234725.jpg (4032x3024, 3.91M)

Attached: 20180312_234713.jpg (4032x3024, 2.84M)

During fixing handbrake in my freshly bought e11 my mechanic discovered that rear breaks are from older model, e10. They are rusted to shit and wheel bearings are noisy.
Hold me, brothers.

Attached: corolla 2000.jpg (2402x1172, 532K)

E100 and E110 share the same chassis, so I wouldn't be surprised about the brakes.

Do a compression check, if it's not too far gone then pull the sump off and inspect the crank for damage.

You'll either be learning how to do an engine rebuild or getting a new engine for it.

when mechanic tried to replace wheel bearing it had 120mm instead of 135mm for e11, i got meemd on by last owner

This is what should be under there.
Kinda looks like your missing everything from the cat and back.
Honestly it's not that big of a deal.
Figure a couple hundred bucks to get it back to stock.
Or alternatively you could take the opportunity get something custom and nice. Like go to a shop and get something that's not loud but has a nice rumble to it.
Stock exhaust is a little tinny at high revs imo, but definitely quiet enough.

Just got a Lexus IS300. Very cheap, only 130,000 miles. Orderig a new hood, new drivers seat, and I know a guy who will give me a free paint job. Color ideas? Also gotta fix the stereo

I have a dilemma.

I put a 7m in this car but didnt do the engine harness before winter showed up.

Should I sit down and do the wiring or should I just remove the fucking thing and get a 2jz and just buy a harness

I'm good with wiring I'm just tired of it by now

Attached: IMG_0838.jpg (2048x1536, 688K)

I'd wire up the 7m but if you swap why no 1jz
also nice radio

Why 1jz over 2jz?

The ultimate plan is a 1gz fe but I'd like to drive it for like a year or two before that

Are you gonna turbo the 7m or 2j?

check'd
also i'd do the 7m. there's a certain charm i think, but are you looking to be a dyno queen or just a nice fun ride? not saying those are mutually elusive options but the 2j def has more potential in it.

Attached: freshboi.jpg (800x603, 74K)

Not really looking for dyno queen, but my other cars are quick (not fast) and so I'm not sure I can handle the low hp. Havent driven the supra since i bought it with a blown engine

probably not honestly

This road sucks

Attached: IMG_0464.jpg (2896x2471, 1.57M)

anyone know what the little number I circled means in this fuse box diagram? everyone I know IRL has had no idea and I want to make sure it's not something important

Attached: knigaproavtoRU09055914.jpg (360x485, 44K)

Go straight to 2j

>5 Speed AE92
>114,000km
had this thing for a year now and I'm not sure if I want to put money into it.
wanted to go low and wide, respray, exhaust etc but at the end of the day it's just a fwd corolla.
what do tg?

9AGE

Are new toyota engines as well built as ones in the 90s?

they are lighter and thats about it

There's an 89 Supra with the 7M-GE for sale in my area for 1500. He may accept a straight trade for my DD. EGR needs work and it's an auto. Can I have some advice? Thanks.

Don't get it
What's your dd

So what's everyone general consensus on the Toyota Avalon 2005 and greater? Decent car? Iv owned a 2007 model XLS for that past 5 years and honestly it's probably my favorite car i have driven so far.

A 99 Jeep Cherokee sport 4x4 that I know won't break down on me.

What are you nitgas up to?

I'm doing an oil change on 2rolla

Packed the MR2 passenger side full of shit cause I'm supposed to be moving in the next few days.
While at the same time contemplating suicide cause life a shit and I don't know if I can deal anymore.

Nice rolla tho. Kinda miss mine. Nostalgic for the days of junior college and random road trips with friends.

Thanks I also replaced the blades, gave it a carwash and installed a hood bra. I'm a college student expected to graduate this semester. I'm keeping this car for as long as I can.

Where are you moving user?

Think about things that make you happy. Don't you have family/friends/significant other you care for?

Attached: 20180315_195646.jpg (3264x1840, 1.79M)

I hope you do, I ended up selling mine after I let someone borrow it and they rear ended a cadillac.

I'm just moving across town. Not of my own volition and the process is a massive pain in the ass.

And I don't know if I have anything to be happy about anymore. I'm just here, following the line and pretty much just barely meeting the criteria for existence. And no, no one. Although I care for people in a general sense. I have a propensity for helping people, and I have no idea why.

Attached: file_sn0man_2-6-18 01_00(2).jpg (4032x3024, 3.71M)

I think the only person i let borrow my cars is my bro unless I'm riding passenger.

You should try getting Veeky Forums. One of the causes for depression is hormone imbalance - exercising will increase dopamine to make you feel good.

What kind of work do you do? Are you having financial troubles?

I hope it's somewhat therapeutic talking to someone about your problems.

Attached: 20180315_194337.jpg (3264x1840, 1.65M)

I was riding passenger when they crashed. I was helping them learn to drive. And I swear they hit the gas instead of the brake just before impact.

I work out some, not as much as I used to, injury.
Milfag, and I don't really have financial troubles. Honestly I've never been in a better place in my life. I fucked up really hard recently though, and there's a 95% chance I'm getting kicked out. But I've felt like this for pretty much a year. I think my fuck up was just a tipping point.
And I have no idea, but I appreciate you asking. I literally have no one to talk to, and maybe that's part of the problem, who knows.

I've helped people learn how to drive stick but it's usually in a big parking lot. Sorry to hear that user

I think having a friend or SO will help you if you find the right one(s). I hope everything else goes well for you man. Keep us updated on the mr2. Any foreseeable plans for it?

No no, this was auto. I was helping him learn to drive in general. We were going literally 2 blocks down the road for food.

I just want to fix general odds and ends on it, and get redo the paint. But that's expensive. All in all, it's in amazing condition tho.
And I wanna put the 3SGTE in it, but that's way down the road.

Also, when I went into town today I spotted 3 other aw11's. I wondered if something was going on nobody told me about.

What do you mean you're getting kicked out?

Chaptered.
Discharged from service.
No idea if it will be honorable or general under honorable tho.
