Wifi can't use Yifan's adapter. They're interchangable so all I'd have to do is get a 3G board and swap them, but that seems like too much work when I already have 128+16gb.

Graphical processing is exponentially far higher. Detail outputted to the resolution as well. Then you have game size, game complexity, full audio, the fact that the screen is built into the device. And far reduced power consumption for the computation, leading to actual portability.
They skimped on resolution because that's not an important factor in most games intended for release on the system. 400x240 is enough to fit all the data necessary for them.
Personally I'd take higher refresh rates over resolution given both are tolerable.
Given power constraints to keep the system cheap to produce, which has been Nintendo's business model since the NES (FAMILY COMPUTER, accessible and ubiquitous), 240p is probably required to hit 30-60fps on many games.

It's not like the Vita doesn't skimp on resolution too. Something like a third of its games use 480x272 resolution 3D scaled up. Persona 4, Gravity whatever, Ys Celceta off the top of my head.

I've heard Ironfall is incredibly good for a console shooter. Which isn't saying much. But given the technical feat of running full, detailed 3D at 60FPS on the 3DS, it should be worth looking into.

No. Personally I prefer a french press. Seriously though, not really.
It doesn't have a wide variety of useful homebrew outside of install and save management. Resolution makes it undesirable for video and comic reading, practically useless for web browsing.
It doesn't have the power to drive much emulation. PS1 is a no go, SNES is hit and miss and miss.
It has live patching plugin for romhacks, but so did the PSP.
It's nice to have a couple translations, undubs, and other hacks. But that's more from piracy enabling than homebrew.

you can change the resolution for some games by modifying the game files. borderlands 2 is one example where people lower the res to get more fps
