Is 16-17" the perfect size for wheels?

Is 16-17" the perfect size for wheels?
>enough side wall to not destroy ride quality
>not too much side wall to ruin precise steering
>not stupidly expensive like very low profile tires
>the right amount of THICC

>precise steering
I think the fuck not I just understeered into a fucking snowbank after taking a turn at 30 MPH

I run 20's and 21's, my mom runs 17's and I'll admit, her ride is way way better. Too bad it looks like shit and this is the only thing that matters

depends on the size of the car and its wheel arches you dumby, imagine 17s on a classic mini, imagine 17s on some pigfat american pickup truck

Your 20s look like shit

This is the correct answer. Whatever makes your sidewalls meaty but not thicc.

Tbh I actually prefer the looks of 17" wheels, 20" look really stupid imo

Depends on the car, like the rx8 in the op, they came with 18's but are better served with 17's and more sidewall.

I want 17x8s with a 255/55's on my rx8, currently running 18x8's with 245/45s and my wet traction is garbage due to how low and stiff the sidewalls are. I can't fit anything taller on 18's or they'll rub.

15" or bust

meant 255/45/17, same overall diameter as oem but more sidewall due to smaller rim size.

optimum shit-box hours = 13
90s tier = 17 to 19

as for tires the overall diameter of the wheel has not changed much
only that there is less tire and more brakes

16,18, and maybe 19

depends on the car
15s on miatas and mr2s (not second gen) works fine

18 is the sweet spot

to specify:
on a normal mid-sized car
for exampe to be able to have 19" with low profile without changing diameter.

>stock: 195/65/15
handles like a rowing boat, comfy but not competitive
>stancefang: 235/30/19
barely any tire, road marks feel like speedbumps
actual road bumps kill your back and your suspension
> sporty: 235/45/17
relativly stiff, still comfy, precise
meaty
tire can flex to give you some extra contact to the road.

Got 225/45/17s on mine, but I wish they were 50 series so they could fill the wheel well out a bit more

My old Mazda 6 had factory 17s and they looked nice. Never bothered to replace them. They filled the guards nicely.

depends on the car of course

17’s look fine if you’re not a nigger

how about slip angle and tire deflection
not many modern tires have this behaviour

Tire prices jump massively from 17 going to 18, and even more going to 19.

17 is pretty good tire for balanced DD, 18 if you have >250hp and want more grip.

I have 14s and my tyres rub.

Yeah it’s because so fewer cars come stock with wheels greater than 17” and the corresponding tires. I’m at 280 hp and more grip is always nice but I can’t justify the cost, at least not until I buy that supercharger kit someday.

17' masterrace reporting in
>Most comfort
>Best performance
>Best value for the money
>Looks the cleanest
>Owning a 17' shows you have class
>Easily available, and is the true patricians choise for stock wheels
Hellcat owners run stock rears with 17's up front.
Most racing teams use 17's, specifically in rallye.

I still find it weird how big tires are on modern cars compared to their weight and power output

Oh yeah, there’s a good reason most higher end cars come with 17’s

This, also I think it looks best when the tires have a little bit of thiccness, 19" and above doesn't look good

22" ftw

Learn how to drive then, retard.

I test drove a CX-5 with 17’s and 18’s. The 17’s had much more meat, better snow/rain performance, more compliant ride quality, and obviously cost less. The 18’s looked sportier and better handling, ride was a bit harsher though. Since this was a compact crossover I was buying though I went 17’s. If I was gonna slam it four inches and turn it into some sort of VIP style thing, though, I would have gotten the 18’s.
