>And so, having been raised in the isolated environment of /dfg/, the native anons were completely unprepared to deal with the introduction of foreign predators into their ecosystem. With no natural defenses against the shitposters, lewdposters, and other dangerous creatures, the hapless general was quickly thrown into disarray. The once idyllic environment will likely be completely destroyed as the soft and feeble local fauna are either forced out of the general or become shitposters themselves, just as the night troll converts its spouse. Such is life in the land of Veeky Forums.

Need your help, /dfg/. Got something weird going on in my fort, not sure if bug or if I'm doing something wrong.
So I have a pair of military dwarves in the hospital after a werebeast attack. Shortly after they were hospitalized, I started getting massive amounts of 'Urist McNurse cancels Give Food: No food available' spams.
Now I know I've got plenty of food in the fortress. There's a 497 stack of mountain titan meat sitting in the food stockpile. Some examination turned up the following:
>A dwarf gets the 'Give Food' job >That dwarf goes to the food stockpile, stands over the pile of 500ish mountain titan meat, picks up 1 piece of meat, and then drops it again on the same tile >Job cancellation notice is generated >Looking at the 1 piece of dropped meat shows that it is now owned by the dwarf that went to go pick it up, not the dwarves who are injured in the hospital >The dwarves who own the food come back later when they themselves are hungry, take the pieces of meat to the tavern, and eat them there >Meanwhile my wounded dwarves aren't being fed!
I checked all the doors around the hospital, none are locked, and there are doctors moving in and out cleaning the patients and suturing and whatnot, so it's not a pathing issue. Is there some mechanic I'm missing here, or is this a bug?
Isaac Bell
I wish I had more time to delve deeper into this game. All I can make is a basic farm, doors, beds and basic rooms & workshops

Well, basically /dfg/ is just too comfy so we are quite content to wait out the children until they get bored, and soon, school will claim their eager ignorant little brains to resume the process of molding them into happy little capitalist drones.

How should I dorf?
Should I fort?
Should I walk?
Should I even do those things as dorf?

you think having 500 posters and 500 replies is a good thing?
Lucas Richardson
Make a kobold fort, for the glory of koboldkind.
Chase Clark
Yeah, I'm sure that comes as a shock to literally nobody, though I'd say socialist, or even democratic socialist is closer. Really it's fine if you want faster phones and cars and bacon-wrapped everything delivered to your house, but we're choking to death on it here in the US.
Who the fuck thinks profit driven education, healthcare, infrastructure, military, fire/emergency response, or policing are good ideas? Go on, raise your hands folks.
Ok, yes, I'm sure there are a few of the whackadoo hyperlibertardians that are all for it, but nobody sane should after a few seconds to think about it. The US since the Reagan years has been acting like 100% capitalism is good just because 100% socialism was bad.
More importantly: least I'm not boldfag over there.
You should dorf with all your heart, all your might, and all your beard.
Austin Scott
I'll cop to some koboldposting but I coupled my shit with on-topic posts, this general has slowed to a crawl though and some serious shitposters have come to roost.
Grayson Thompson
Oh I don't care either way, I just think its funny how the chillness of /dfg/ is proving to be its downfall as it seems like this general just isn't used to normal levels of shitposting and is thus easily baited and derailed. We are like the dodo, entirely weak and defenseless to the natural predators that have been introduced to our island.
Anthony Edwards
Oh c'mon now Max, don't tell me you seriously think like that
Owen Thomas
Before I go in I'm gonna fuck with the raws a bit. Downloaded All Races Playable, will also get advfort.
I'm wondering how to give kobolds scales in their actual descriptions. I changed it in the raws but it won't show up on characters. Also removed KILL_NEUTRAL_REQUIRED and UTTERANCES.
Any other changes you guys like to make in the raws?
>Big Effie was a walking contradiction, a fat, jolly, good-natured goblin. That didn’t stop Effie’s establishment from being the most violent place this side of Steelguard. As Samser bellied up to the bar, he couldn’t help noticing a dwarf sitting by himself in the corner. Samser tried to back away, but it was too late. The dwarf noticed him.
“Do you know what time it is?” asked the dwarf.
“It is time for you to get out of this neighborhood,” said Samser.
“It is time,” said the dwarf, “for revolution.”
Isaac Bell
>not making an ancap fort when economy comes back Buncha reds in here
Jaxson Taylor
I guess you could make them slightly bigger, DF kobolds are pretty damn small.
Jeremiah Murphy
nah, left em as is. Fixed the scales, gave them a tail, scales show in desc now. Also changed their base description a bit. Here's the raws if anyone wants:
Yes I seriously think for-profit everything is a bad idea but I'm fine with it driving stuff like electronics and whatnot so I could scoop up some DDR4 ram and one of those 7th gen pentium chips for a couple hundred bucks, just keep that shit out of schools and hospitals and police departments kthx?
Which goes back to df actually: using the same worldgen (pastebin.com/898dLPQq basically) and everything else but going from an ivy bridge i3 to a kaby lake pentium + ddr3-1600 to ddr4-2400 made a really obvious boost at first and took a lot longer to slow down.
Carter Ramirez
actually nevermind something got fucked and only the scales on their lips are colored???

Oh Max, you poor misguided fool, well, think what you want to think I can't stop you. In the end you will see you were wrong anyway.

It's Friday Night guys: tell stories of drunked Dwarf Fortress antics.
One time I decided "I'm not really doing anything that interesting with this fort anyways" and had my miners breach the volcano cadera that was containing a horde of clowns. My only regret was letting a lesbian couple I had grown attached to get killed in the carnage. Sarevsh was a legendary Clothier and As was a legendary macedwarf who led one of my squads.

I just want you to know that the only yous I got in that post were game discussion that you erroneously listed under your off-topic section. I'll bet mine weren't the only ones.
Luis Garcia
The last set of post links was to illustrate the falsehood of the idea that the big problem is that there's no actual discussion of DF even being attempted. Perhaps my sarcasm didn't come through as well as it should have. I apologize for the lack of clarity.
Asher Cruz
The point isn't "there's no DF discussion"; the problem is "half of the thread is relentless shitposting".

Honestly there's literally nothing we can do to stop the shitposting until the next update comes. We're just gonna have to grin and bear it for the next month or so. The people have cracked and nothing but new content can assuage them.
Carson Carter
I know, that's exactly what I was trying to illustrate. Apparently I didn't do a very good job, nor did I dissuade Mr. Shitposter here . I'm starting to wonder if some of it is automated, it's not like it'd be hard to do.
Jaxson White
Things I've done in DF drunkenly: *Tried to bore through a 5 layer aquifer *Built a open air sky barracks 20z levels up where a squad of bare naked wrestlers trained day in and day out *Collapsed a mountain *Left the game unpaused while i was passed out and woke up to a siege 3 seasons later with my food and alcohol stockpiles at 0 and all of my dwarves very unhappy at living conditions
Easton Harris
Have you fuckers ever heard of "ignore the retard" or "just discuss the fucking game"? Are you so insular that you have never had a single fucking shitposter?
Owen Garcia
I've been shitposting here since 2012. They are just used to certain types of shitposting. Everyone like their own brand.
Zachary Thompson
Sadly ignoring them wound up with the last thread hitting image limit with half of it being furfaggotry.
>captcha: POST CYCLISTS Fuck you captcha, you post cyclists, you... DOUBLE HOBO!
yeah, only communicating in text for the last 100 posts really enriched the discussion in the last thread, didn't it?
spamming irrelevant images harms the thread regardless of whether anyone replies, and he needs to stop.

How does not ignoring them make it any better? Whether you state how it bothers you or not doesn't change the amount of pictures posted.

of course, no library would be complete without its own ghost librarian.
it's the girl the tantruming axedwarf beat to death, if anyone remembers.
Jack Sanders
here's the killer.
Jaxson Barnes
I finally did it bros. I dug through an aquifer.
Evan Ross
What type of ghost is she? And just how badly messed up is her killer? I'd like to see his profile screen. People say that tantrums are impossible now, but I can believe you, especially since I've got one dwarf who requires constant pampering to avoid being "under a great deal of stress" while all the others are living less fulfilling lives and dealing with it.
Ryder Reyes
He did it again. This time he killed one of the human mercs.
She's just an ordinary ghost, a restless haunt. Entirely harmless.
There are several factors that have contributed to making tantrums rarer. The first one is the replacing of the thought system with the emotion system. The emotion system just seems to be more player friendly than the thought system was. However, even though the emotion system made tantrums rarer, it was still fairly easy to get them, especially if your dorfs saw a lot of corpses in a short time.
A second factor is the inebriation effects implemented in version 0.42. One effect of inebration is that dorfs become fearless. Fearlessness means that they don't react when they see scary things, i.e. corpses, ghosts, etc. Since seeing death was one of the biggest sources of unhappiness, making dwarves indifferent to it certainly made the tantrums even rarer.
However, there are still lots of negative emotions that don't become nulled by alcohol. Being attacked, sleeping without a proper bedroom, not having access to recreation, drinking booze without a mug, using a water source without a well, etc are all examples of emotions that still affects a drunk dorf. All of those probably contributed to the moodiness of this axedorf.

bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=165410.0 >Thanks for another great month as we continuing winding this release up. I'm going to an event at Northwestern in the middle of the month to give a talk about the "future of games", whatever that ends up being! So that'll be fun. For the rest of the month, we'll be working on the remaining bits that need to be polished and tested. We probably won't quite finish, but hopefully it'll be close enough that an October release is guaranteed. Look at all this hope! >October release
Holy shit, so we have to endure another month of shitposting.
Austin Gray
someones' got to stop him from seeing all these hipsters.
have you seen the websites of any of these hipster conventions? they always claim to be indie and counterculture, but half of their lectures are about corporate bullshit like entrepreneurship and marketing, or maybe "scholarly research" at some corporate funded think tank. I don't like the thought of these drones influencing Toady.
Charles Rogers
>In the most recent dev log you mentioned prisoners, is imprisonment specific to goblin sites right now or do other civs do it aswell now in the coming version? Can we rescue them in adventure mode? >Yeah, everybody can do it, and they are the same as the world gen prisoners. Somebody mentioned that those might not work in some sites. I haven't changed that, but if you can find them in adv mode, you can rescue them, and dwarf squads will be able to rescue even non-findable ones.
>all civs can now take prisoners >site structures don't have a place for them yet >they'll be forever in limbo until Toady fixes it in 10 years >mfw Fucking hell, Toady. I mean, yeah sure, it's better than the alternatives (only gobs take prisoners or the release is pushed back a few months just to fix that), but still.
Carter Jones
>That said, if it starts generating prejudices based on, as you listed, appearance, is this even going to be a game people want to play? If you are playing adventure mode and the game says you are the wrong color or sex etc. to speak to somebody, or your dwarves start spitting no certain people, or worse, I think we incur a deeper obligation with our players out there in the real world than just saying "oh the generator did that, no big deal". t. Toady We don't want to trigger anyone right?
Adrian Roberts
I think it'd be okay as long as the player could affect it, and it wasn't necessarily something that happened every time.
Bentley Ross
>But yeah, prisoner rescue squads will rescue other prisoners (sometimes random humans from world gen too). Once they don't return, it won't be too long before you realize that an entire squad was imprisoned or killed, and you can then risk a rescue. Small/lone squads of dwarves sneak better, so sometimes it makes sense to send a single dwarf on a rescue mission, so you don't have to risk your whole army. Even if your dwarves aren't listed, you can still attempt a small-party rescue by sending a general purpose site raid, since the raid squad will always try to sneak first. Later we'll have more specific orders and options. I cannot wait until I can send my squad of steel-clad berserkers to wreak havoc amongst the goblins and take loot and prisoners and stuff. It would also be amazing when playing a dead civ with no dwarves left, as you can help your population grow by rescuing dwarven prisoners and slaves, that might join your fort and work for you.

such sieges are more common than you think, and it hasn't much to do with which races are invlolved.

I've got a dwarf who keeps on going to recover his pet hedgehog, putting it on his shoulder, then dropping it exactly one tick later, walking a few steps away and then starting over. Does anyone know what to do about this?
Jaxon Howard
I find it a bit odd that the one type of organ meat I actually eat with any regularity irl, turkey liver, apparently does not exist in DF, but turkey intestines, which I've never heard of anyone using for anything irl, are produced with every turkey slaughtered in DF.
Jacob Gray
Be glad it's just a hedgehog?
