jokes aside, what exhaust do you have?

$180 ebay catback since I didn't see a point in spending $500+ for "quality" noise.

Respect, what do you use to premix?

Just payed my Porsche off.

Thinking about getting an FC. Any advice for looking for one? Seems a lot of owners list them on forums instead of typical sites. US btw.

Weebs used to worship the katana, now they hide their fetishization by worshipping an outdated inefficient engine

>Shit-tier bait
Imagine being this insecure about the wankel engine

Yeah you sound like a typical FC owner

The ultimate line of defense for any weaboo is to say everyone else is "baiting" them

Get an S5 at least. na or turbo is up to you. either lowish miles or had been rebuilt.

>this many shitposters
you'd think this was an alphonse thread.

most important question to ask is when the engine was rebuilt, and if it has a functioning OMP/and or has been premixed. Check for white or blue smoke when starting up the car, for bad coolant/oil seals respectively. the engine should rev to redline smoothly with no problems, and to be sure conduct a compression test. If all of these go smoothly, the engine should be healthy.

I'm mirin, don't be sad. I own an FC and sometimes wish I had a miata to drive

>Driving a Mazda Miata

Attached: KekMiatas.jpg (1024x768, 102K)

What makes the S5 meaningfully better than an S4?

Thanks for the advice. Been reading up on the typical issues you encounter. Is it really better to premix than to run the OMP?

The last time I remember posting in one of these, I had just gotten my FD up and running, but it was idling way too high and I just couldn't figure it out. The problem more or less fixed itself since it was the result of the fast idle cam staying totally "open." After an alignment the car drives great and is free of any leaks or heat issues.

I swapped in the wiper stalk (pic related, bottom) and rear sway bar bushings from an RX-8 so my miata is practically rotary powered

Attached: 20160814.jpg (1200x900, 230K)

OMP much is cheaper, but only certain years of RX-7's can run on it alone. The S5's are notorious for having insufficient oil injection while the S4's are much better in that regard. Additionally, the FD's have excellent systems from the factory while the early RX-8's injected far too little. Later RX-8's had 3 injectors per rotor instead of 2, which helped tremendously. On an FC I would use premix no matter what, but the amount depends on whether you have an S4 or S5, and whether or not the OMP is still functional.

Here's another from that night. Believe me, you don't want to see it in good lighting.

Attached: DSC_0872-Edit(1).jpg (3842x2700, 3.74M)

to add to this, I have an S5, and i'm using an s4 pump, because the s4 pumps were mechanical while the s5's were electrical. He's right tho, always good to premix regardless of the OMP sitaution

I really want a FD but cannot afford. Should I buy a rolling shell for $5k and go from there?

For 5k you're going to be getting a really shitty shell. Not to mention, you'll spend a fortune tracking down all of the parts you need. Just save up for a running or at least complete but non-running FD if you want one that badly.

lmao, well done

Attached: 1519309732713.jpg (682x682, 64K)

Is smoking not that bad for you? Is it just propaganda?

M8, I can't afford $30k+ for a 90s car. Tbh I wouldn't mind just putting it together with non oem parts and a non rotory engine. I just like the body's aesthetic desu

NC I'm guessing? Why not swap both front and rear sway bars as well? Heard it's a pretty decent upgrade for NCs.

Similar story. Debating pulling the trigger on some RX-8 sway bars. Practically dorito powered.

fuck off.

Lmao. Where am I gonna get a FD rotory for a shell? I'd love an original Rx7 but I'm poor.

Build a fucking kit car then. The FD is not for you.

$30K???????? lmao
buy a fucking FD without an engine for like 13K and put it in yourself

gtfo

Ah, the thread of my people. Ask an RX-8 owner anything, I'll be happily living in this thread for however long it stays in the catalog. I consider myself to be relatively knowledgeable about early model RX-8s as long as it's not some trivia game question.

Is the handling really as good as some people say? As far as rotaries go I've only driven my FD.

FD a cute.
Yeah, I'm thinking of buying a shell desu

I also would like to ask this, I drive an FC, have never driven an rx8.

The handling brings a new meaning to good handling. The way it feels connected to the road is unlike a car, and more like a living entity, a part of oneself. Every bump comes clearly through the suspension, every bit of tire scrub is portrayed by the steering in a highlighted, clean manner. Every motion of the steering wheel results in an absolutely laser precise change in line. A touch of the gas wakes up the billions of angry bees within the engine, and a constantly building, perfectly smooth powerband rockets it through one corner into the next with a thrilling level of perfection.

I haven't said anything yet about the actual performance, because it doesn't show that to you as the driver. It doesn't feel fast or scary or exciting. It feels controlled and so perfectly planted that you can perform at any level you imagine yourself at. With every corner, it encourages more speed, only acting limited by what you dare to try. I personally haven't managed to properly exceed the limits that this car offers accidentally, always able to recover in a split second, or often even before the tires begin to chirp. To put it in a comparative metric, I've raced a C7 Corvette in the twisties and absolutely kicked its trash despite having half the power and a lot less rubber on the road. I have yet to have any car I've encountered while driving make up ground through corners, although admittedly few of them have been in races.

The handling is very forgiving for a sports car, and in the background it has a DSC system that can keep things in check even if I'm not even trying to get around a corner front side forwards. As long as you're driving skillfully and listen to everything the car tells you, it'll stay completely out of your driving, and if you want it can be easily turned off entirely.

It can take a bit of time to learn exactly how this car talks in the twisties, as with any vehicle, but once you learn its language you'll find that there's nothing that compares.

im going to put a rotary in an aw11 mr2 and theres nothing you can do about it

>Implying anyone would try to stop you
What are you going to do about the transmission though? I can't think of any FF, MR, or RR rotaries.

Not sure. That's the biggest issue is what tranny to mate it to. As soon as I figure that out I'm going to have one monster of a track car

have you changed your apex seals?

my negroid brethren

I bought mine for 15 and it runs like a fucking top. And I beat the PISS out of it. Don't pay some mexican guy 30k for an FD with 19 owners.

Attached: lewd headlight covers.jpg (3264x2448, 3.55M)

New (used) engine. I bought it at 100k with an abused engine for cheap and dropped a good one in it, I'm now at about 110k with the 50k (now 60k) mile JDM engine running as good or better than the day it went in.

Changing apex seals isn't like spark plugs. It involves a full tear down and rebuild of the engine, like "changing piston rings" would. Luckily when treating the engine right it's not even something to worry about until about 150k, these engines only die earlier because of people not driving and maintaining them in the correct way.

>my negroid brethren
There's just one of me, mate.

Attached: DSC_0868-Edit(1).jpg (4257x2395, 3.13M)

Tell me guys, did I make the right choice by passing up an '04 RX8 that had no compression numbers to back it? Dude wanted me to pay for the test if one was to be done, and I was short on time for getting a car, and that was the only one in the price range in my area.
I ended up getting an Integra, but every time I see an 8, it kills me a bit. I miss the Dorito life, but I dunno if I made the right choice in passing it my chance to live the Dorito life again based off of nothing but my own paranoia.

You fucking retard you should know when buying a rotary car, you need to have spare change to rebuild the engine.

Yes you made the right choice.

Great choice. Rotary goons love to brag about compression numbers. He knew exactly what the compression was he just didn't want to tell you.
>t. shitpost about compression numbers on mine

>04

Avoid the 04-05, shit omp rate and only 2 oil ports for the seals, 06+ is what you want.

t.05 owner.

Gotta replace the primary injectors in my FC, just realized they're under a part of the air intake.

Im cryin'

Attached: fuelsystem.jpg (767x665, 51K)

Believe me, the FD is far worse.

It's not as hard as it looks, just have to remove the upper intake and they're right there. Should only take an hour if you've never done it before.

D O R I T O S

Has anyone tried drag racing rotaries? It seems that you can turbo the absolute piss out of them if you don't care about reliability.

If it's still twin I imagine it is, never actually worked on a stock fd before. It's easy as piss with a single turbo.

>the virgin rotary vs the chad v8

Attached: christian.jpg (1024x805, 103K)

That's the exact reason I didn't get it user. I had an FC that I didn't do compression checks on when I bought it, and I loved it. Engine was still strong when I sold it after I crashed it (I know my mistakes and regret it every night). But since then ive learned a lot about them, which is why I asked him for numbers in the first place.

He said he got it in trade for painting some dude's house and "didn't know anything about rotaries". I told him it would help him sell it a lot easier if he had compression numbers, and if they looked good, I'd buy it on the spot. He refused saying he didn't wanna get it tested, so I just walked.

I got used to the premix life on my FC, so if I got an earlier model with good numbers, I'd be mixng straight away. Which I figured would give me more than enough time to save up for a rebuild down the road.

Thanks Anons. I know I did right, but sometimes I think of what could have been and it bugs me.
