Why did Mitsubishi just practically give up?

Why did Mitsubishi just practically give up?

Shit wasn't making money. Big daddy zaibatsu told them to focus on baby cars for the third world and fuck off with spending anything on performance.

Because mothers buy more new cars than enthusiasts. Can't blame them for that.

Family sedans are dying on the market and dead on WRC.

To make money

Have you ever considered death? I know I hadn’t until a friend pointed out that it comes to us all. Now, we’ve got a competition in conjunction with our sponsors Zaibatsu. You could win yourself a five-star top-of-the-line funeral! Absolutely free! No embarassed kids at the gravesite. Stay tuned after the news for details.

Yeah, i'm not a fan of the X myself.
But I'm a VII-IX gen owner, I hardly even see X's at meets anymore. Don't have anything against X owners, I'm fully convinced it's for a different target market.

They have been shit since the early 2000s. Outside of the Evo what good cars have they made that aren't the more unreliable cheaper version of what Subaru did. They can't even make a good shit box with the Mirage.

>ywn own an evo 3

why live

Attached: evo-3-japan.jpg (800x533, 141K)

market changed

SUV's exploded since the 80s well into the 2000's

what one would refer to as a suv/sedan/wagon back then is your average crossover today

big sedans are out as they dont look as capable to the average retarded buyer who runs out and get a AWD to never take it offroad, they feel unsafe in a RWD car because they are fucking retards used to a car coddling them and literally driving itself

>keeps TCS on
>Stability Control
>AEB
>Blind spot monitor
>Autonomous Cruise Control

Let the retards ruin modern cars they are all infotainment ridden shit as far as i am concerned ill never own a car made after 2002

it's painful isn't it?
Cars are some of the most important purchases you make and so many people don't give a shit.

used to be the same for every other peice of technology and now its just a white goods appliance that retards kick to the curb every 2-4 years for the new shiny model with a slightly tweaked dash and upgraded wankotainment and thats it, same engines and platforms going on 10-15+ years

I was going to say at least there's still the Subaru, but I just now learned that its future is looking murky too. I'm no compact AWD sedan fan, but if it's true that's sad. I remember when these first popped up and was surprising everyone.

The feels don't heal

>wankotainment
Oh boy you just spilled my coffee.

looking like a korean shitbox does it no favours

>I4
>expensive
>ugly
yeah wonder why the evo is kill

I dont see your point with the platform/engine comment. Pretty much every manufacturer with a couple exceptions (Toyota trucks, STI come to mind) have completely revamped their engine and chassis lineup in the last 5 years or so.

>I4
Literally nothing bad about this.
>Expensive
No argument there.
>Ugly
Subjective. I think they look pretty good.

Take that back

Evo's ugliness is beautiful.

mitsubishi
>ruined evo
>ruined eclipse
do they just hate good cars?

Are the last Lancers any good? I read the MPGs are in the lower 20s. Other than that looks like a decent car.

Attached: 658278.png (650x336, 72K)

low 20s? i was getting 33mpg average on my 2008 cvt fwd. but it was a cvt so it only got that mileage when it wasn't overheating and leaving me stranded on the side of the road. hopefully 10 years later they don't overheat anymore

The newer ones average 24 MPG from what I read. I don't know anything about engines. Had a Mazda 3 with no issues at all. What are the negatives of the CVT?

make sure you're not looking at the awd models. They're spec'ed at 23/30 and the fwd is 27/34.

the cvt is fine when it works. thankfully if you buy it new you get a 100k warranty if any thing goes wrong. I know i was thankful. Second owners of the lancer get factory warranty until 60k so watch out if you're buying a used one and see how many owners it had. I had my cvt fail and replaced twice under warranty before 80k. The cvt is not performance transmission so if you're plans are to make a 2018 evo the do not buy. The durability of that JATCO made cvt is boarder line planned obsolescence. The cvt rewards slow deliberate throttle inputs with great mpgs. Quick jerky stabby inputs pretty much get ignored and the throttle will open on its own time. This is where the lack of throttle response that most people complain about.

the meme arrow vesion of it is
>doesn't like sudden high tq inputs or sustained tq.
>higher parasitic loss compared to a manual (like you'll only have 100-110whp form a 150hp engine).
>cvt fluid has to be at just the right level or else it over heats and servicing is not real drain and fill.
>the lancer's cvt is an older metal reinforced belt design. prone to stretching over time which causes slip which causes heat which kills the cvt.
>mitsubishi does not repair faulty cvts. it's remove and replace with a new or remaufactured unit. the latter being more likely.
>legendary lack of throttle response

get the manual instead and avoid all of the cvt woes. Just check for timing chain stretch. the 4b11 and the 4b12 like to jump timing after 100k or so.

because they weren't making money on them and they weren't changing up the car enough to compete with the other competition namely the STI which was already boasting 325hp and loads of other shit while the Lancer Evo was doing a mere 300

they're literally bleeding money they might pull out of america all together

i think the evox peaked out at an advertised 290 from the factory. never had a 3 in front of two zeros

They didn't fucking give up. It's called adapting to the market. Do a couple Asian IT guys buying Evo's matter when they can sell a few million vehicles to a bunch of filipinos?

Maybe if Mazda tried the same shit they'd actually sell something.

Wow I really appreciate the info. Yeah the one I'm looking it has a 100k warranty so if it does have any issues you stated they'll take care of it without costing me anything. Thanks again.

Attached: arnold predator.gif (400x213, 430K)

even worse, thats about on par with the WRX

so just to be clear, you're buying new? I've seen a lot of dealers pimp mitsu's 100k warranty on used lancers with 3 owners and 80k on the clock trying to sucker people into it.

Yes the last ones the 2017 models

at least for the us market

>Not the 4g63
>Expensive to the point of just boost your lancer
>Ugliest Evo
Basically the Evo 10's problem was that it wasn't the Evo 8/9

aussie here so our shitbombs didnt focus on engine upgrades much and even imported models had older engines/platforms for years
we are basically the garbage dump of RHD shit with low spec everything

Renault

fukken fatmobile just needs its fatman and soybin

whats a soybin?

Dont u mean a soyvape

Because the 2nd biggest company in japan just doesn't care anymore

nissan?

i thought Mitsubishi was the biggest company in japan

Fatmobile, Fatman, Soybin
Batmobile, Batman, Robin

soyman and vapebin

4 if my fav

It's bad business to make shit like this anymore, that's why every auto maker is going to go electric within the next 5-10 years. It's done. The STi probably won't be far behind. They are part of an era in history now. You will see them raced for a while, but as broke dick racers ruin EVOs by being shitty at modding, and people crash them, the only ones left will be coveted by collectors and they will only show up at car shows on Velocity channel and have a Wayne Carini type guy bid 100k for one. If you don't already have a low mileage stock example all original you done fucked up. Of course I am only talking about EVO I - IX. EVO Xs will just be thrown in the trash since they are fat and gay.

America's infrastructure is rapidly crumbling and people don't want sporty cars anymore because they ride too roughly. Mitsubishi performance cars were never popular to begin with and there's no way anyone's gonna buy a new Evo anymore. The only performance cars people are buying new are either dirt cheap like the 86 or super expensive for the purposes of showing off

these niggas make jets and rockets, you really think they care about keeping some posermobile in production?

I have one just for the flappy paddles.

I also have a V with a IX 4g63 swapped in

there’s a beater shitbox one in my town
it’s lowered so far and has the wrong tyre profile so it scrapes along everywhere and smokes bad

>EVO Xs will just be thrown in the trash since they are fat and gay.
It's true

Attached: goodfellas.jpg (960x720, 76K)

>no more evo
>eclipse is an suv
>lancer got neutered

:(

Mitsubishi is a multi-billionaire company who primarily specialises in making ships, steel, heavy machinery, making iron structures, and like the other person said they manufacture and specialise in making rocket parts, and almost the whole of aerospace in total. While all this is running, spending something on the automobile sector would be a waste because it is something far from secondary.
