ITT: Cars that would have been legendary if it wasnt for one fatal flaw
>its a ford
>jaguar motor
its just a duratec
Neither of those were the LS fatal flaw. That was the cheap-ass looking interior. The soft plastics that make journalists sperg out everywhere but made to look like cheap hard shit.
That, and they ride like a rock
The V8's are the Jaguar AJ26. The V6 got the Duratec 3.0
That was literally every Ford product at the time. The LS’s biggest problem was that pile of shit 3.9
>they ride like a rock
I can tell you never drove a car before, the ls was known as a softer m3
And Jaguar engineers felt that Lincoln went firmer than they considered optimal, so what's your point?
Though it's probably mostly the seats. Just as well be sitting on a wood bench.
This
Should have thrown the 4.6 or 5.4 V8 instead
Just drive it and you will understand that's complete bullshit
At the time this car was arguably both the best looking in class, and among the best driving. The real issue was Jaguar-tier reliability and repair costs; if only it actually was more of a Ford.
As I recall, at the time, BMW was aping Toyota and Mazda for design under Christ Bangel. Jaguar was full "retro-mod" with the S- and X-types. Mercedes was boring as ever. Audi's were even more boring and basically indistinguishable from Volkswagens. The CTS (I believe it was around then) was still in its very rough early days (especially as far as the interior)... The LS was really the car to have as I recall.
Reminds me a lot of the first-gen 9-3, in that it was timelessly handsome in a period where all the competition were revoltingly trendy.
I own one and I agree with Jaguar. And I don't even have the Lincoln Lincoln Sport Sport version. I've only got the Lincoln Lincoln Sport version. It rides harsher than any BMW yet when pushed it washes out like an Audi. Absolute worst of both worlds.
Duratec is literally just a brand name that Ford slaps on a bunch of different motors from other companies (mostly Mazda)
66 technical service bulletins.
Sixty Six.
Can't find a high-rez group shot from the era, but I think the Lincoln aged the most gracefully.
p.s. how does Infinity still exist as a company? Like 30 years now of awful ugly cars absolutely nobody cares about, likes, or buys.
Also this reminds me that Lexus used to aspire to be Mercedes, instead of the other way around.
OK, and what's the average for Ford TSB's per model? 65?
you're an idiot
An is300 looks better than this
I was torn between this and a Lexus GS430 and ended up going with the Lexus. I still drive it as my primary car and couldn't be happier. Always wondered what life would've been like with the Lincoln.
Go on a Lincoln LS owners forum some time.
Every post starts with "I love my LS, but..."
Also use find in page to search for "ignition coils" and laugh at the results.
Looks pretty sick blacked out.
There's something especially appealing about a "Hot Rod Lincoln", since it's so against what you expect.
Absolutely not.
You're just putting it on a pedestal because it just happen to be rear wheel driven.
Those shit piles are made of electrical problems, not to mention the garbage engine.
Only if M5
I don’t think Mercedes ever aspired to be reliable
>fwd
Honestly the name "Neon" really handicapped it. It wasn't actually any worse than an Escort or a Cavalier but the cutesy name doomed it to the automotive friend zone.
This was a hit when it came out, with great marketing.
>implying it wasn't hugely successful unlike the "literally who" Cavalier
Pretty sure the neon was more successful than either car mentioned.
>no boot
>no 2zz
take your pick, either would have made it more popular with a certain market
Successful yes, but it fell short of "legendary" status because it was never a "cool" car and it could have been with better marketing.
The Neon had probably the best marketing of any compact ever, and maybe the closest a compact sedan has ever come to mainstream cool.
this. honda have their heads up their asses thinking they would gain nothing by offering literally anything different from their current engineering ethos.
I disagree, Satan. I think it's still the odd man out of the 90s shitboxes and guys who drive them today put those silly "angry eye" headlight shrouds on them to try and fight the "lol cute neon" reputation.
I'm not bagging on the car itself, just the perception the name created in car culture.
>v6
It's an amazing car to drive, it just breaks all the time. Fuck Ford for fucking up this car
But the LS is Legendary. It's Legendary for being an unreliable piece of shit.
Legendary isn't always a positive thing.
It's a Ford, what do you expect?
It's a Forguar. A Chimera of the worst parts of two companies.
I'm just saying OP is wrong. He says that it's not legendary, but it is.
Jaguar was good until Ford got ahold of them, same thing with Mazda. The ls could have really been something specifically, but Ford has to fuck it up as usual like every single car they make.
Damn it really looks like an old man car on the inside
>Jaguar was good until Ford got ahold of them
Thanks man, I needed a laugh.
>Jaguar was good until Ford got ahold of them
the fuck
>it ran for 16 model years
>99% of them were autotragic
>MUHLAYZE ERA
>got about 5,000 improvements right before it was killed
>neon
>not popular
???
I remember when neons were dominating in autocross
Not going to suger coat it. It was the fucking plastic. I would have prefered yhese to crossovers
>popular
Thread isn't about popular cars, it's about legendary status.
Corollas are really popular cars that sell well but they're not legendary either.
4th gen Civics are legendary, they're still popular and desirable with the car crowd to this day.
Neons aren't legendary (despite being a pretty gud car all things considered) they were popular in their time but nobody really lusts after a Neon 15 years later.
Speaking of shitboxes, the ZX2 could have had a more lasting reputation if they hadn't over-lapped the launch of the Focus over it.
It was supposed to be the last hoorah for the Escort platform, and it was a really thrashable little shitbox, but the Focus ZX3 stole the spotlight.
So I guess its flaw was bad sales timing.
Legendarily ugly. Reliable cars that were made for TEN YEARS and there are still tons on the road.
>Chrysler
>reliable
The only reason these raised-roof Neons are still kicking is because most of them were initially owned by grandmas who kept them in garages and only drove them to church and back.
Plenty of 200k examples around. The engines are bulletproof, and they are cheap as shit to keep running. Parts are as cheap as they could be and they are everywhere.
>mx5 na
>low power
It should have had a turbone version putting out 250hp desu
>AWD
>V6 TT
>easy to tune
>Cheap
>Opel Germany
>gets bought out by PSA
2018+ is gonna be shit
RIP insignia, aussies here didnt even get the Twin Turbo V6 under the Commodore rebrand, just the stock Insignia VXR
Unless the tires are slipping with normal power this shouldn't be a problem.
Better fuel economy, less weight, less parasitic loss, and more beginner friendly driving dynamcs.
Fits perfectly for a cheap fun car
There technically was. But M2 Miatas are incredibly rare. I’ve only seen one on Craigslist ever.
PEAK dogshit domestic days. 1990-2006 was when all the execs knew the companies were going bankrupt and were just producing worthless crap committing fraud, stealing inflated salaries, retirement packages, golden parachutes, stealing exec cars for them, their wife, their kids. it was NUTS how much cronyism fraud was occurring in Metro Detroit at the big 3
still tons on the road? not really. far more in the junkyard
