The Z car has traditionally been a trend setter, not a follower
350z competed with the z3 or z4. It's a great car that is very reliable, rwd, cheap, and powerful. No v6 made 300hp in that era. Hell, the 2018 rc350 makes 4 less hp than the vq35hr. The diffs are not great on z the 350/370 and the 370 is just an improved 350z in almost everyway (more hp, shaved a few 100 lb). Even non hr 350z are very reliable and oil consumption issues are vastly overstated. I own a g but they are so similar.
Most VQ35XX oil problems stem from owners not knowing shit about oil desu. Using thick as hell oil for a DD with less than 5km to go every day or using thin oil for weekend cars that get thrown around corners for hours.
