They're actually overpriced because the car is a classic. It had great popularity in the actual japanese motorsports community and was used by drivers who are more famous than the initial D anime, which was in itself inspired by them.

5-8k is a reasonable price for a rare, high demand car that's turned into a classic over time. Why would you ever expect it to cost less when most of its contemporary and arguably worse 80s boxes cost the same or more? Be glad it's not gone to boomerville and is being priced at 20k for shitheaps.
