What is the point of double clutching. It is so unnessacary compared to just disengaging once, blipping the throttle, placing it in gear and engaging the clutch.

makes you look/sound cool

How does it sound any different?

because Vin Diesel said you should

I mean when you tell people that you know how to double clutch

>disengaging once, blipping the throttle, placing it in gear and engaging the clutch
So, foot off clutch, blip throttle, ram transmission into gear, then put clutch back in?
Sounds like a good way to destroy your car, you fucking idiot

Double clutching hasn't been relevant for decades. There is no point now.

Drive a car without synchros and find out

>clutch in
>shift
>blip throttle
>clutch out

It's only use is for down shifting on corner entry.

But for cars without synchros or dogs it is necessary. In a synchromesh or dogbox it is not necessary when proper downshifting will do

You don't need to double clutch on a synchronised gearbox.

So unless you drive one of these you don't need to do it.

Ok great, congrats, you've discovered the reason people invented synchros

Thats called rev matching you stupid fuck

this

also racing cars i guess?

No not even in racing.

I agree, hence my comment

No that's rev matching.
Double clutching is
>Clutch in
>Stick to neutral
>Clutch out
>Rev
>Clutch in
>Stick in gear
>Clutch out

Hence you use the clutch twice.

Only needed on unsynchronized gearboxes. Dogs you just ram home with normal rev matching. I guess you could say that Double clutching does less wear to the synchros than rev matching but seeing as most manuals that aren't abused last the life of the car it doesn't matter

Hell, don't even need to do it then. It's all about timing

Learn how a clutch works. You interpreted disengage and engage backwards

Some day this kid will be promoted to shift supervisor at macas and actually be able to afford a beat to shit WRX

It's funny how often this occurs though

>start double clutching my downshifts to see how smooth i can get it
>forget how to do it the old way

>itt: """"""double clutching""""""
>or ((((((how i fucked up my transmission))))))

You talking about the car?

^^ wrong reply

I was talking about the clutch assembly itself, not the clutch pedal.

Because it sounds fucking amazing. Listen to McQueen after he spins out and he's driving through that canyon. It sounds fucking biblical.

Nah people mislabelling engage and disengage in relation to clutches.

Hey guys. Amateur hour here trying to get better at driving manual. Do I Rev match when I shift up or down shift?

I know I'm a retard in advance. Thank you for your time.

always rev match

Double clutching makes my downshifts a lot smoother so I try to do it

>What is the point of double clutching.

Make people think you are driving a Peterbuilt with a Honda body kit.

Rev matching as a whole is useful for both. But if you're talking about the 'blip' portion mentioned above, that helps with downshifting specifically.

It’s a meme you dip

the challenger completely missing the fuel pumps always gets me

Not according to that old skip barber video
They say double clutching is doing it properly

this, upshifting is about timing (letting the revs drop), downshifting is about blipping (increasing revs). You estimate where it should be based on your current speed and your particular car's gearing

The only right answer.

>2018
>not double clutching

That and now the mad scientist has to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried

>not double clutching every upshift

Its like you've never driven a mid 90s NIssan with the worlds worst synchros

Syncros were invented for reason

My transmissions are between 20 and 30 years old. They appreciate being treated kindly.

90's Nissans are butter, you don't even need the clutch most shifts.

I can't don't any other way now.
I get looks every time I drive with a passenger in any car.

>have synchros even in race car
>double clutch anyway
Literally pointless, you won't go any faster and you won't get anything from it. You'll probably lose time because you're spending more time shifting

Agreed. I double clutch while daily driving as to protect my synchros but in any sort of spirited driving or tracking it's just straight downshifts.
