Need some car help

Hey Veeky Forums, my car broke down today and it's going to cost 7k+ to fully repair (Fuck you Veeky Forums).
So I'm going to buy a Honda civic for around 2k. However I know nothing about cars. I barely know how to drive stick for that matter but this is a good time to learn I guess.

What do I need to know about these mythical Honda civic beforehand?

The fuck did Veeky Forums do to you?

Anyone can treat it like shit and it will still run, almost every example you see will be running. Bring someone along to check out a car before you buy it that knows what they’re doing. If you can’t find someone, go to a shop and throw someone 50 bucks to go with you to look at it

>bought Lexus LS430
>transmission blew after 4 months

I had a mechanic look at it before I got it too.

>7k+ to fully repair
What car and what happened? From the way you're writing I kinda get the impression that it's a leaking head gasket and some mechanic just told you an astronomical price so he can buy it off you for 500$ and flip it at a 500% profit

Oh never mind. Should have scrolled down before projecting that hard
BUY ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FOR 600 BUCKS YOU ABSOLUTE MONGOLOID

>Transmission costs 3.3k
I might be getting meme'd by the mechanic. Like I said I'm car illiterate.
>struts are at least end of lifespan: 2.5k

Were do you find a 600$ tranny

>600$ tranny
Intranets or wrecking yard where you pull it yourself

Cannot understand fags like you. Am I just supposed to take it to my personal garage with a lift and take out the transmission, then walk to the junkyard and find a working transmission, then put it in my car? All in a weekend? Normal people have jobs and are not that mechanically inclined. And most mechanics will refuse to install some transmission that you just picked out of the junk yard

>>struts are at least end of lifespan: 2.5k
???????????????????

>And most mechanics will refuse to install some transmission that you just picked out of the junk yard
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Basically learn to be a man and pick up a wrench and stop going to certified car repair places, soyboy.
If your time really was that expensive and important, you wouldn't be fucking around with 15 year old shitboxes

They're all full of shit and never did something like that themselves.

New suspension is needed.

You are absolutely getting raped by that overall wearing jew, you need to take it to another, better mechanic.

There is no way in hell swapping a transmission for a lexus 430 is 7k.

You absolutely need a 2nd opinion far away from that garage.

Also you probably don't need struts yet.

Maybe I live in a bubble but I bought new struts for my shitbox for 50$ each. I understand they might cost more for a Lexus, but not that much, jaysus. Labor probably makes up 2000$ of that price label. Tranny job is quite involved, but struts is a one day job

Uhmmm I went to 2 different mechanics and 2 different transmission shops and the lowest price I found to change the tranny in my altima was 5.6k. I'm not even joking. I would be amazed if anyone would do it for under 5k

>Transmission blew after 4 months
Chances are it was thrashed on heavily before you bought it. This ls430 didn't have any records of the transmission fluid changes, did it? Aisin transmissions are fucking tanks, but aren't invulnerable if its ran low on old shitty fluid.

Go buy a used one for $400-$500 and throw it in yourself dumbass.

The transmission job is 3.3k
With the suspension/ strut thing + a couple smaller things like brakes it's 7k.

You're trolling at this point, aren't you?

Yeah I know. All the shit I've read about them says the transmission and engine are God tier. I had a mechanic look at the transmission fluid and stuff and they ok'd it. Which is why I'm pissed.

>throw one in yourself for 600$
1. I have a hard time finding the fucking hood latch. You think I could figure out a transmission?

2. I work 7 days a week.

3. The cheapest transmission I found was 1200$ +200$ shipping with 140k miles on it.

No I'm actually retarded. That's why I'm asking.

to actually answer OP's question and not just shit on him for not wanting to change his own transmission in a very heavy car: Civics are fucking great as long as they don't burn oil or are rusty. Easy car to learn standard on.

You're obviously not an auto enthusiast; you're not into cars, repairing them, or even shitposting about them. Why are you asking the auto enthusiast board for advice? Why are you surprised you're not getting the answer you want?

Also a quick ebay has most Asin transmissions for under $400. Find a mechanic who will do it for $85/hour labor. Thats at least $1200 tops for the whole repair.

Here's one with 123k on it for $445.

If he thinks a fucking civic is mythical, better let him keep the Lexus he's been driving. I doubt he's gonna bother to learn standard transmission.

The fluid was probably changed before being prepped for sale.

500 bucks AND FREE SHIPPING shipping a fucking crate is expensive

Rear wheel drive trans are easy to remove. This took me a handful of hours to get and drag home

>5 speed

The 2005 LS430 is a 6 speed transmission. Will this work?
