There are certain items you can only obtain through desynthesis which are used for crafting and obtaining crafting books.

Classically, desynth gave mats necessary for crafting. Namely Demimateria, and the ONLY way to get those is through desynth.

This is still true, and they will be relevant again once we're able to craft two-star crafter gear and tools, as they require it, count on it. You'll also notice that any crafter combat glamour requires battlecraft Demimateria, sot here is money to be made.
