Botanist is pretty chill, people will RARELY if ever fuck with you, pretty simple, and most important of all, fun.
Also the job has received a lot more depth over the years but is still pretty accessible, hell I still haven't touched gene splicing and other fuckery after all these years.

Sec is supposed to be flashy and noticeable. They're supposed to say 'STOP! POLICE! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! STOP RESISTING!' to pretty much all in their presence.

I can agree that if circumstances merit a more stealthy approach, there should be a uniform for that. Again, I mentioned SWAT as an acceptable use for the blue color scheme.

But the average patrolman should be a redshirt. He must announce his presence loud and proud, and he should not be mistaken for any other occupation on the station. There should be no doubt someone is a sec officer.

Sec is read because it's a reference back to when all departments had only color-coded jumpsuits, which were a reference to star trek

Sec is the disposable cannon fodder that dies to show to the main character that shit has gotten serious, nothing more. Sec actually being able to do things and having a fucking armory is power creep that everyone forgot was actually power creep, like how the janitor used to ONLY be able to clean with a mop and bucket.

I agree with what you said, there should be no room for miscofonding, and they're iconic, but how exactly is toning the red by a few degree changing them completely to the point that they MIGHT be miscofonded with another job?

According to this chart, Sec right now is close in my opinion to candy/crimson, my idea is simply to make them closer to ruby/scarlet, or if you must keep them flasy, apple.

I believe Sec having more shit to deal with antags and other space horrors isn't a bad thing, when they infact still get their ass wooped to oblivion.
The same can be said for Janitor, it was a punishment role, but it's not anymore, and I know a lot of people actually enjoy janitor, if only to be able to chill down a little just tidying things up, it's not a bad thing for them to do that more efficiently and less tediously now that the job isn't a punishment anymore.
