jesus, what level are your characters man? yeah, definitely work on getting t1 for all your characters at a minimum, so you can start equipping tier 6+ gear.
it's a slow grind, but you eventually want to get to the point where you can auto-battle chapter 6 battles and farm that gear. Once you have a full set of t6 equipment, you should be good to start on chapter 7.
as for exp, best method is to either pop a exp booster during hot time and just auto-battle stuff in ch 6, or running battles overnight. Make sure to do your conquests every day too.
I would recommend at least level 70 before going into chapter 7 but you can probably start it earlier if you're feeling confident.

Aisha is 60, others are still in their 50s. The leveling from 56 up is really slow. Aisha got ahead because I used all of the EXP bottle I get from Frey. Even with that, I still can't get Aisha past 60.
So, should I *5 Frey or buy Laias? Frey's healing is very weak since I don't have her UW, but I'm afraid using my 6000 gems will hinder me later with material farming progress to transcend.

if you have Laias' UW I would grab her now so you can start investing in her. Frey is by no means a bad healer and Laias' UW isn't a gamebreaker or anything but having a party member at 4* still will really hinder your strength, which is why you think Frey's healing is really weak.
the leveling does slow down at 56, but you should still be able to get a level every couple of days or so until you hit the mid 60 range.

Ehh get everyone you want to T1, healers get their healing based on levels / attack so if they're low they're healing is going to be low. I think honestly Frey gets more value in raids / solo play with shield / blind over Laias, but Laias is by no means bad since at T5 she becomes a monstrous mana battery which is perfect for Aisha. Like a lot of Frey's issues in healing can also be fixed by putting lifesteal on one piece of gear for both your dps since you really do want it surprisingly, it adds a lot of sustain with just having baseline 10% lifesteal.
Best grind spot from what I've seen is 1-11 Hell, the one with the boss goblin since it's such joke mobs that don't do any damage. Until then though your'e going to need to grind the highest hard you've unlocked and make sure to grind during hot times with scrolls. Once you get T1 and get people to 70~ you can switch to hell mode farming and rake in the tons of xp there.

you can actually recover runes from gear if you pay 250 rubies, not worth it until you have heroic+ runes imo. Ancient runes (the ones with the orange borders) are absolutely worth recovering.
ch6 is when I started slotting my gear and it's a noticeable power increase so it's worth slotting blue runes at least for now, if you have no intention of recovering them.

Armor runes won't matter honestly til about T6, slap them in BD gear once you can start farming that since you'll be wearing T6 BD gear for a long time, and when you do replace it you can use it on new characters or ones you bring for world boss.
It does get easier to get mroe runes later, especially if your in a guild that consistently clears guild bosses since there are ancient / normal rune boxes guaranteed from some and they can pop up randomly. It's more annoying since all the weapon runes are trash but attack ones and the mp/attack ones. You will use those on 99% of the characters, with healers usually using 3 of the mp/attack ones so really it's just how lucky you get.
As someone who played for waifus and ignored every male in existence, I regret not working on Gau somewhat since he just trivializes and shits on black dragon. Having him in your team on black dragon makes the fight honestly like 50% easier to do, which is important since that's where you get the best gear in the game.
