I always get depressed when looking at WW1 and 2 photos, especially of the germans. millions fighting and dying in a doomed war sort of does that I guess

Who even takes these kinds of picture? didnt it take a while to take a picture in the 1910s? So was the photographer just standing 20 feet away with machine gun fire flying over his head?

Seems likely. I remember finding a bunch of alternate views of the photograph, one of which specified the building across the way, but it was months ago and I can't find it now. Ah well.
